Cache partition

Wipe cache partition

If the phone is not working correctly, you may need to master reset it and also clear the cache partition. These two resets clear different parts of the phone storage. Unlike a master reset, wiping the cache partition does not delete your personal data.

 

To wipe the cache partition, follow these steps:

 

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  3. Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  4. Continue holding the Volume Down.
  5. Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  6. Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.

  1. Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  2. The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.

  3. Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  4. Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.

  1. Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  2. Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  3. Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
  4. If this does not resolve your issue, the next step a master reset.

Master reset

Master reset from settings menu

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloaded content, ringtones, images, apps, and contacts. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

 

To perform a master reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up all necessary data and synchronize files.
  2. See: Prepare for a master reset and back up data on Android
  3. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Scroll to 'PERSONAL,' then tap Backup & reset.
  6. Update the following as desired:
    • Automatic backup (on/off)
    • Back up now
      • Use mobile data connection
      • Switch to Wi-Fi connections
    • App data and settings restore (on/off)
  7. Tap Reset phone.
  8. If screen lock is enabled, enter screen unlock information to proceed.
  9. If desired, select the following check boxes:
    • Erase all data
    • Erase SD card
  10. Tap OK.
  11. Review the 'Backup now' message and select either:
    • NO THANKS
    • BACKUP NOW
  12. Review the 'Warning' message and select either:
    • CANCEL
    • OK
  13. If you tap OK, the phone will perform a master reset.

 

Master reset with hardware keys

If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.

 

To perform a master reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press and hold the Power button
  2. Tap Power off.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  4. Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  5. Continue holding the Volume Down key.
  6. Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  7. Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.

Safe mode

Turn on and use safe mode

Safe mode allows you to turn on the device with third-party apps disabled. Then you can remove any apps that are causing problems.

 

To turn on safe mode and use it to fix app problems, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
  3. When the 'Reboot to safe mode' message appears, tap RESTART.
  4. When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.

Uninstall Third Party Apps

To uninstall any third-party apps that are causing problems, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'PHONE,' then tap Apps.
  4. If necessary, swipe right to the Downloaded screen.
  5. Tap the desired application.
  6. Tap Uninstall.
  7. Tap OK.

 

 

 

Turn off safe mode

To turn off safe mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. On the screen, touch and hold Restart under Phone Options.
  3. When the 'Restart phone' message appears, tap RESTART.
  4. When the phone restarts it will no longer be in safe mode.
