I just got the Sony Experia, and I really like it alot. The problem I am having is that it is not really picking up any wifi signal very well. My One S showed and still shows full wifi bars, Experia, I am lucky to get 2 wifi bars right in front of the router. I have tried on many wifi networks and this is a problem as where I live, the wifi calling is pretty important. Any ideas on how to improve this?
Eelete tje connection from your phone
Unhook router from modem
The One S signal indicator was also very in accurate though and showed higher then what should have been.
I have mine at the fringe of the range of mine and still shows full.
The Sony is probably accurate.
No luck with this.
Me neither. My Sony's wifi reception is noticeably worse than my Galaxy S2 was, but not as bad as you're describing, I show all bars next to my router. Maybe you should try a new router?
Like you, I still like Xperia Z. It would seem like it should be more popular.
This has not been identified as a known issue with this device. Does the same thing occur when you attempt to connect to wi-fi in other locations?
Yes it is. I use wifi most places I go as, I don't have a lot of coverage in my state. The wifi signal is always weak.
Have you managed to find a wifi signal the device connects to strongly?
It sounds like it may be device specific, and therefore may require an exchange.
The phone can be picky with certain brands of routers. My old Nexus 4 absolutely hated my Linksys router and always dropped connections, but I got a new Netgear and it worked flawlessly. My Xperia Z also works flawlessly with the Netgear.
I have this problem too. Xperia Z WiFi constantly drops and reconnects at distances where other devices are working perfectly reliably at reduced speeds. This happens at home (dual band N), at restaurants, and at hotels. It makes public WiFi impossible to use.
To correct dropped Wi-Fi connections, follow these steps:
1.Remove any protective cases as they may interfere with Wi-Fi signal strength.
2.Verify you are on the latest software version. Software update: Sony Xperia Z (we have not had any new updates since release)
Verify the Wi-Fi sleep policy is not disabling the Wi-Fi:
1.From the Home screen, tap Applications.
4.Tap the Menu icon.
6.Tap Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep.
If this persists, we will need to continue troubleshooting.
That's how my phone originally was but it didn't matter. This is WiFi dropping and connecting again while it's actively in use. I found a discussion on XDA Developers saying that newer OSes for the Xperia Z have improved tuning in /etc/firmware/wlan/prima/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini that fixes it. I'm already up to date on all T-Mobile releases but I have values matching the older tuning. (root access would be needed to modify the file)
Contrary to what the T-Mobile people will tell you, this is a known issue with this phone. It has horrible Wi-Fi reception. Some people say that the updates from Sony (available on other carriers, but not on T-Mobile) have helped with this. Sorry to tell you, but your T-Mobile phone is just going to suffer with this until, and if, T-Mobile ever released an update that addresses the issue.
Would a wifi hotspots or signal boosting device possibly help?
