I am planning to buy the Iphone 5 from tmobile itself. And I am wondering if they can unlock it as well because I need to use it overseas. Will they charge me? or is it free?
Once you pay full price they can unlock it
I paid for mine in full and they said I have to wait 40 days before they can unlock it. I just signed up but I paid in FULL so they should unlock it for me.
T-mobile's full price is $70 discounted from Apple's full price so they probably want to lock you into using t-mobile until you pay the $70 in service charges. Otherwise people would just go to t-mobile for unlocked phones instead of Apple. I expect the 40 day requirement is driven by Apple, not T-Mobile, and T-Mobile must do that to be able to sell the phones at a discount.
If you need an unlocked phone immediately, Apple is selling the T-Mobile version now. Of course you will pay more but it will be unlocked.
After all that I went through to get this phone I'm keeping it. How convienient that Apple has them all of a sudden but whatever. I wonder if I can pay for an IMEI unlock?
You have 14 days to return it. Let T-Mobile have their phone back and buy one from Apple. It'll work just as well on T-Mobile and comes unlocked.
I would but the closest corporate store is nearly an hour and a half away. I guess wait the 40 days or whatever.
I have 2 T-Mobile iPhone 5's and they are both going back.
