WARNING:  unlimited talk+text plan price does NOT include text??

On my account in both mytmobile.com and on the tmobile mobile app my plan charge is listed as $79.98

BUT on my bill every month it is listed as $99.98

Help me understand this.  I have an unlimited talk + text family plan for $79.98 per month.  WHY am I charged an additional $20 per month for  texting?  THe way the plan is worded, it makes it sound like the plan price ($79.98 per month) includes both unlimited talk AND unlimited text.

NOT SO.  I just spoke to customer service to see if they could help me understand why my account says I have a $79.98 plan, while I am billed $99.98 for my plan (this does not include the extra charges for my data plans for each phone, the charge for my add-a-line, and the charges for taxes and fees--this is JUST for my family plan "unlimited talk + text"--the same plan that says in my account that it is $79.98).  The rep let me know she could understand my confusion because of the wording, and then explained the $79.98 unlimited talk + text plan is just the BASE for the plan, and there is a $20 additional fee for unlimited texting.

Wanted to warn everyone because no one will explain this to you when you sign up for the plan; in addition, no where on the website does it explain this; no where on the bill does it explain this, no where in mytmobile.com does it explain this, and it is NOT listed anywhere in the breakdown of my charges. It is very misleading--the name of the plan is "unlimited talk + text" which insinuates both talk AND text are included at the $79.98 price. THERE IS A $20 EXTRA FEE FOR TEXT!

What phones do you have? How many minutes? Sounds like you read it wrong and misunderstood the explanation.

Also is this your first bill?

  • 3. Re: WARNING:  unlimited talk+text plan price does NOT include text??

Hmmm... it's not my first bill, but the first billing cycle where I noticed a discrepency between my bill and my account info. (had the same plan a lil over a year now)

after reading the discussions a little, I'm wondering if this has something to do with the changes tmobile made--maybe my plan cost is going down to $79.98 from $99.98 this month....but I still think it is weird how the rep explained it to me that $20 gets tacked on to my "unlimited talk + text" plan for texting.  That is misleading, if so.

If an unlimited talk+text plan is $79.98 why would an extra fee get tacked on for text?  It wouldn't bother me if it plainly stated this, but it doesn't; I've spent almost the whole day trying to find somewhere where I would have missed this notation.

Are you on a Value or a Classic plan?

Without seeing your bill I couldn't tell you exactly what happened.  Seems like the rep is talking about PREMIUM TEXT over conventional text.  These are subscription based and he probably removed the subscription.  I don't know if you signed up for something (like on TV or Facebook where they would charge you).  There are also some shady apps in markets which will charge you even if you download it for free.

    Hello heatherguilfoyle,

We definitely want you to know what you're paying for. There are 2 different versions of Unlimited plans with messaging added on, based on your dollar amounts, I'm going to assume your plan is the Classic Unlimited plan. The cost for that plan is $99.98 for the first 2 lines. $79.98 of that is for the minutes. $20 is for the messaging. I apologize if this was not explained to you at the time of purchase.

It is possible that you were offered the Value plan for $79.98 for the first 2 lines. This plan breaks down to $69.98 for the minutes and $10 for messaging.

We can take a look at your account and let you know for sure what's going on with your bill. There are, as mentioned, other possibilities. Let us know!

Yah, I thought of that, too--but no way, it is nothing extra I added (as far as what I can see on my bill, in my account, and from what the customer service rep says).  It is just how they bill the plan (explained by tmobile customer service as the $79.98 base plan price--even though it says "unlimited talk + text"--includes talk only, there is a $20 extra charge for text, making the actual plan price $99.98)

I just think its really weird this is not explained anywhere on the website and not explained when signing up.  You are led to believe (well, I was), that the $79.98 price advertised is for unlimited talk AND text. I guess it would be easier to comprehend (and accept when you see the bill) if it just straight out said "$99.98 unlimited talk + text")

Oh, and yes, its a classic plan so i guess no one will have to worry about that in the future unless the price for the value plans operate the same way (tmobile is doing away with the classic plans)

    Hi, Jessica

As much as I think it is weird, I understand what you are saying.  I do have a question, though, in regard to the changes in plans tmobile recently underwent. (I am weighing the pros and cons of migrating, which is why I would like to make certain I am clear!)

The new price for the value family plan for unlimited talk + text is shown as $80/mo for unlimited talk, text, and 500mb of high speed data (for the first two lines, not incl any add-a-lines)

Does this mean the real price is $80/mo for unlimited talk, unlimited text, and incl. 500mb of high speed data

    OR

is this just the base price and an additional monthly fee will increase the total monthly plan cost? (not incl add-a-lines or optional added data plans/other services)

    Thanks so much!

I too noticed this and called in. The thing is that I changed from a loyalty plan in august of 2012. My original plan stated $99.98 now it's saying $79.98 including talk and text. Now wherw does it say $20 extra for unlimited texting.  I originally had unlimited texting for up to 5 lines for $9.99. The rep couldn't even fully explain and then told me it's how get put the S.O.C on the account.

    Hi heatherguilfoyle,

The new plan is $80 for the first 2 lines to have unlimited talk, text and 500mb of high speed data. The bill would also include taxes, but there are no additional charges for service. The breakdown of the plan is also very cut and dry - its $80 total, not broken apart by feature at all.

Yeah, bout to just say ***** T-Mobile and cancel my services that I have been a customer for since 2006.  Having same issue, and store associates and managers and 1/5 phone reps agree with me, turns out amount and features of the 79.98 plan were changed 8/2011 to having to pay $20 extra for unlimited texts.  I had changed my plan to this family plan to pay LESS not the same as what I was before the plan change roughly 2 years ago.  The fact that my change in my plan to being the Classic Unlimited—Talk + Text was probably only a couple months before the plan became really the Classic Unlimited—Talk and Text being $20 more just makes the whole thing even more irritating.  I am in the process of making contact with the department I was forward to by all forms (Certified Mail, e-mail and fax) because I feel they need to fix this problem.  I DO know what I signed up for, and I have all the proof I need to possibly start case that can escalate to a class action case.

P.S.  The profanity detecter is a joke.  The word I had above that is now blanked out is the verb used for installing a light bulb.  THAT is not profanity.

It looks like they never bother to update the web page to reflect the changes, at least that is what they said to me when I asked about the difference too.  I thought about changing to the family value plan, but I'm pretty sure they'll come up with some hidden fees again, that won't reflect on their website.  I like how they use vague wording such as you might have to pay a migration fee...but they don't show it while you review plans or changes to your account.
