I am getting the following error when I sync my gmail account on my phone:
"There is a problem with the certificate for imap.gmail.com993:1. Contact a support person or your service provider. Error code: 80048888"
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
WHat does your server settings look like in the gmail settings? On my 8X and Lumia my gmail Server is m.google.com
Let me know
thats where I see issues when I took online for similar issues. Per our phone it should automatically be m.google.com, can you add it and for chips and giggles, do you have Imap unblocked on gmail on a pc?
I just upgraded to the 8x. My previous phone - hd7 - was set up with m.google.com.
the strange thing is that my 8x seems to be syncing fine at the moment without changing it to m.google.com, but I don't have faith that it will continue to work. I'll update the server to m.google.com and see if that solves the issue long-term.
on your last question, I'm not very technical so I'm not sure if I have imap unblocked on Gmail on my PC. I don't know what that means.
Thats ok no worries, Let us know if that resolves the issue. I do agree with you that's really odd this happening especially since both of my devices shows the m.google.com
Could this all be an aspect of Google dropping Activesync support unless you're on a paid Google account? The server you connect to may vary based on which connection protocol is selected when you configured the mailbox
I dont think so as I am using a free account.
I'm sorry, that isn't supposed to happen until 1/30/2013 , but watch out for it!
Google ending Activesync support for NEW Gmail mailboxes on free accounts. Existing accounts are grandfathered in.
Changing the server to m.google.com didn't do the trick.
I've decided instead to abandon Gmail altogether and go with my outlook account. I've been looking for an excuse to do that for a while now anyway.
thanks for reaching out to me!
