Guide [All-In-One]

Hello,

I've been reading on the forums about many people having issues installing ICS on there phones for various reasons. This is a revamped guide I've made with Pics and everything to help you. There is also two ways to install ICS on your device. Choose which ever works better for you

Required:

Samsung Kies (This is not Kies Mini or Kies Air)

Samsung USB Cable

Samsung Drivers

Samsung Galaxy S II (2.3.5 or 2.3.6)

Tmobile-ICS.tar.MD5

Internet Connection

A Computer

ODIN

Method One

WARNING!!! ** I'm not responsibile for anything that happens to your device **

Step 1:

Uninstall any previous versions of Kies that was already on your computer. This will ask to to uninstall everything associated with Kies. (Choose Yes)

Step 2:

Download and Install the Samsung USB Drivers

Step 3:

Download Samsung Kies from this website.

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T989ZKBTMB?

Step 4:

Turn on USB Debugging Mode & Plug in your phone. This will instal the latest drivers for your device.

Step 5:

Install the latest version of Kies. This will also ask you to install the drivers. You want to install them as well otherwise it won't work!

Step 6:

When you launch Kies it'll ask for an upgrade. (This isn't ICS. This is simply an upgrade to a newer version of Kies.  2.3.2.12054_20)

Step 7:

Kies should try to connect you're phone at this point. Once the connection has been established you will see an option for Firmware upgrade. (LE1, this is ICS)

You have two options here: You can either choose upgrade or cancel. You probably want to do Upgrade unless you want to do something else.

Step 8:

Click Upgrade

You will then be promoted to the screen below.

The bottom check box asks if you wanna back up your information with Samsung. I didn't choose this option because it would just take more time and everything is already backed up with Google.

Step 9:

You will now hit a screen that says the Firmware will wipe out your homescreen and return to factory.

Step 10:

You will see the follow few windows. The best thing I can tell you here is BE PATIENT. Just walk away from the computer and do something else for a while and come back

Method Two

WARNING!!! ** I'm not responsibile for anything that happens to your device **

This is probably the easier method out of the two. The only downside to this method is you that you may lose your apps if you aren't rooted. The steps below do NOT root your device. It is the same exact software you would get from the Kies Update.

Step 1:

Download and Install the Samsung USB Drivers

http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=96692&t=4&i=1

If you already have them then great

Step 2:

Switch your phone into download mode.

This can be down by powering off your phone, then, Hold down Power up + Power Down and plug in the USB cord.

You will feel the phone vibrate. Keep holding it until you see something like this.

You want to hit volume up to Continue

Step 3:

Download and open Odin. This can be found here.

It should look like this if you have you're phone plugged into the computer.

Step 4:

Download the ICS Package to flash via ODIN.

http://uploading.com/files/4ed8d4md/...gy1nehf4g.zip/

This is a pretty big file so it'll take some time.

Step 5:

Exact the ICS Package you downloaded.

In ODIN, click the "PDA" button and nagivate to the extracted ICS Package. It should be a tar.md5 file.

You're ODIN should now look like this: NOTICE WHICH BOXES ARE CHECKED AND WHICH ARENT

Hit start!

You should be on you're way! Be PATIENT and relax.

FAQ

My phone isn't connecting to Kies?

Did you install the correct version of Kies?

Did you try changing USB ports?

Did you upgrade Kies?

You can also go to this website and download the latest Samsung Drivers.  ( http://www.mediafire.com/file/6onrjbyd46j4lhj/T-Mobile_t989_GSII_ADB_Drivers.zip )
Kies is tricky, it works when it wants too and doesn't when it doesn't. Keep trying. I would also try toggling with Debug mode on/off.

My phone is stuck in download mode?
The phone will automatically reboot once it's done with the upgrade so you're not stuck.
What precent is Kies at?
How long have you let Kies do the upgrade?
Try unplugging the phone, plugging the battery and starting the process over again.
Make sure you have a SAMSUNG USB Cable
If it's still not working, try later in the day when the server's aren't so busy.

I get Firmware failure..Please use kies recovery
Well there are a couple things you can do here.
Pull the battery and wait about 10 seconds. Does the phone boot up normally?

You can plug the phone into the computer and see if Kies picks it up.
If it does,
You can go under Tools --> Emergency Firmware Recovery

If it doesn't,
Use the Odin Method below

My E-mails aren't showing up
You're emails are there. You just have to go under you're email settings and set your font/font size.
This can be done from either email settings or regular android settings.

If they're are any other questions feel free to post them here. I will also be updating the FAQ as we go, so please take the time to read before you post. If you also want me to show you a method to root 2.3.5, 2.3.6 or 4.0.3 please let me know. I will be glad to include it in the guide. It'll allow you to download apps from the marketplace that can backup all your applications and data
