My phone keeps retarting over and over again. I have no clue what to do. I did a master reboot. Still, it keeps restarting. I am trying to update the software to the new eclair, When I start the copying into the "update" folder, it would restart as I was copying and I would have to do it again each time. I finally managed to get lucky and the phone is still on and the file copied in full. However, there is no update launcher screen that comes up like they say. I do exactly like the directions tell me. I can't call customer service either because my phone reboots at least every 1.5 minutes.
I'm in medical school and my life really sucks right now as it is. I didn't do any updates or anything at all to provoke the phone. I didn't even know how to update it till today as I was searching for remedies. ANY help/advice would be really appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time in advance.
I am experiencing the exact same problem. Seems funny that it started on the very same day.
that's so weird!
I finally got a hold of a friend's phone and called t-mobile. After answering questions and going through the whole process with them, they decided to ship me another phone. It sucks though that I won't have a phone for a whole week.
Are you having to pay for the new phone?
they wanted me to just pay $20.00 to "activate my warranty". There's free shipping. It turns out I had a 1 year manufacturers warranty on the phone which was about to expire in just 10 days!
I've been in a bad mood all day since this problem started, but I couldn't help but feel a bit lucky when I heard that.
I am having the exact same issue! It started yesterday and I don't know what to do to fix it. Has anyone else called tmobile?
Yes, I finally got mine repaired yesterday. They think it may be the battery, but in the meantime I downloaded the new SW release 2.1 and updated my phone and it is now working.
In the directions for the update they fail to tell you that when you transfer the file to your Garmin in the Update Folder that the UPDATE Folder MUST be under the GARMIN Folder for the Update launcher to start on your phone once you install it.
Remember to keep your phone plugged in to the power source while the update runs but follow all of the other instructions.

Thanks for that info, I tried several times to Update only to NOT get the Update Launcher to pop up. It also gave me an SD card error... anyone else having that issue?!
Take the SD Card out and delete all of your call logs and messages. That may help the phone stay up longer.
Please remember to put the Update folder in the GARMIN Folder or the launcher will not launch.
Double click on GARMIN Folder to open it
If the Update folder is not there then Add a folder "Update" make sure the U is capitalized
Open the Update folder then copy the SW load into the Update Folder.
Disconnect the file transfer on your phone (do not unplug the cable)
Disconnect the hardware from the PC in the bottom right screen under Safely Remove Hardware
Then the UpdateLauncher will work.
Okay, so I turned on my phone to try these suggestions and now it wants me to enter a code. I never knew I even had a code. As soon as you turn the phone on, the first screen that comes up is "enter code". I'm so confused.
Called t-mobile and got the code.
VHICKS, thank you very much. The launcher just started. Unfortunately my phone resets too often, so it doesn't even let the updater finish the first step, which is "verification".
Keep trying. I found once I removed my SD Card, cleared all longs and messages and deleted unnecessary apps that the phone finally started and I could download it.
Don't give up.
it worked! My phone is back to normal! Just called t-mobile and cancelled the shipment of the new phone. Vhicks, you are the man. I really appreciate you taking the time to write down what I needed to do. You didn't have to, but you did. And for that, I'd buy you a shot and a beer.
I have been with t-mobile for almost 7 years now. I have never complained about anything, and I don't consider myself the type of person that really complains about anything. I'm just the average dude. You know that I mean: stay out of my way, and let me stay out of your way. I don't want to make anyone's life harder. But the truth is that someone definitely dropped the ball on this one. I don't know if it was T-mobile or Garminfone, but I do know that after this experience I will seriously be looking at other companies and other options before I sign the next contract. I do realize I'm technologically retarded, but spending a collective 5-7 hours on something like this is completely unacceptable.
Vhicks, thanks again and take care.
NP - I was out of service for most of yesterday and waiting on them to ship a battery was not making me happy at all. I am a firm believer that if I can help someone else why not. No point in anyone else having to fight this battle.
after updating my garminphone, i lost all my phone settings. i can call and receive calls. but i cannot save new contacts because the menu for adding contacts is gone. anybody had the same problem. please help
