I have a Galaxy S2 that I use with the pre paid minute cards, so data plan but I want to get all of the features out of the phone that I can through Wifi, are there settiings I should change?
I did set the network to GSM only, data off, but I am not sure if I should enable packet data or not? I am leaving the background data on as I would hope it will update or sync when I automatically connect to wireless at home or at work.
Thanks for any advice,
Packet data is what allows you to use the data on your data plan. I leave it off and only use it when don't have a wifi connection.
Turn packet data and background data off. The phone will open everything up for use when you connect to wifi.

thanks for the advice, one other question though....I did have packet data turned off as I think that only has to do with cellular data connections. The background data (at least I thought) is for updates for alerts, weather that kind of stuff and I thought that at least some of it would run when I am connected to wifi.
So when you say the phone will open everything up for use when I connect to wifi then how does turning the background data off affect this? Or is background data also something that is only for cellular data?
Background data is for cellular data, basically giving apps permission to access mobile data when they aren't the primary running app (i.e. in the background). It's so those with extremely limited data plans can prevent apps from using data randomly (not that that always works). The OS doesn't restrict data access when connected to wifi, because no one would need those restrictions then.
Thanks everyone for your advice I really appreciate it!
