iPhone instant messaging under text messaging

I have a family plan in which my line gets unlimited texts and 500 minutes per month. On a nokia X2 I bought from T-mobile, I am allowed to use instant messaging (MSN, GTalk, Yahoo messenger) in the messages app under instant messaging. Those messsages count under text messages, and I am not charged for any data. I wanted to know if the same is possible on an iPhone 4 (unlocked)

Thanks

    Hi kydoshi,

That's a great question.  Instant messages are billed as text messages.  No worries there.   Be sure to check out The specified item was not found. for more details.

Have a great rest of the day!

Sorry if I miscommunicated, but I am aware that the Nokia X2 can send instant messages under text messages, but my query is that how exactly do I do that on an iPhone? The Nokia has instant messaging under the messages app, but the iPhone cannot instant message in the messages app, and has no other app that does it supporting T-Mobile's feature directly.

    Thanks for your reply though

    Hi kydoshi,

Sorry about the confusion-  I'm with you now!   Although there are no pre-loaded applications that are compatible, you can download instant messaging applications from the APP store.  Be sure to check out - The specified item was not found. for a partial list of instant messaging applications available.  Please let me know if you have already tried downloading applications and it's still not working.

Let me know if this helps

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I checked the mentioned website, and for all the instant messaging, this message is given:

"(Windows Live Messenger) is available through the App Store.

We're sorry, but this feature is not available on this phone. However, you may be able to download the application from the App Store. T-Mobile does not support downloads from Apple's App Store."

I believe this means that there are apps to instant message on the iPhone, but they are not supported under text messages, ie they will use data and charge for data.

I tried the offical yahoo messenger app though, and all it does is times out when I try to sign in (I dont think it will use data because that is blocked because whenever I try to access a website over EDGE, it redirects to a T-Mobile site asking me if I want to upgrade to a data plan)
