I installed the 2.32.531.1 software update last Wednesday. Since then, my batter has been draining at an unbelievable rate. My phone was fully charged this morning at 8 am. By 12pm (4 hours later), my batter was down into the red, alerting me that I had 15% remaining. I had wireless and bluetooth turned off, although gps was on (I have now turned that off). My phone also seems to be warmer than usual, but I can't verify that.
Has anyone else had problems like this? Does anyone have some suggestions for me, beyond plugging my phone in 3 times per day to charge?
I don't know if you were able to find a way to solve this but the same problem is happening to me! After the software updated 2 week ago, my phone battery is dropping ridiculously fast. I have to charge it more often than I did before!
This is happening to me as well. I am getting random crashes during heavy use too. Anything from saving a picture, browsing the web, or just idle and locked. This is extremely frustrating that an approved update made my phone worse.
You know, I hadn't made the connection yet, but I did have one crash since then, too...
I have not seen an increase in battery drain since moving to 2.3.4 two days ago (mine is actually better on battery use, if anything), but certainly did beginning about 10 days ago. It suddenly begain being almost dead by noon.
I ordered a new HTC battery on Amazon.com for $4.50 (plus about $5 shipping) and expect it will fix the issue. In my 15 years experience with cell phones, the batteries become unreliable after about a year. Your mileage may vary. Mine is 14 months old. Since they are so cheap now, it's hardly worth worrying about.
After mine my battery life was ok but then again to make sure nothing was conflicting like my last one was I did a master reset right after getting the update then gave a day before reinstalling any applications.
I didn't do a factory reset, maybe that could help? Actually, I did a factory reset a couple of minutes ago so maybe it could help. If not, then it could possibly be a battery problem? I've owned my phone now for almost a year, I think I might have bought it back in February.
Last night, I finally found the battery use part of the settings (dang, that thing is hidden), and determined that it was calendar using all the battery. 35% of it went there. So, I force-stopped calendar last night, and we will see if that gives me better battery life today. So far, it is looking good.
Viralanomaly, I would check the Sync settings (Menu, Settings, Accounts and Sync) of the calendar and only have it sync about once every 4 hours, and to update when opened. I would also suggest powering the phone off and back on again every few days. I often do this just before I put it on the charger at night.
The same goes with other sync settings - reduce the frequency of sync and it'll save battery. If you're not using something, remove the sync altogether. And of course, turn off Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS is you're not using those.
I'm not seeing a way to set the timing on the sync stuff. It's either on or off.
You are correct, for Google/Gmail. I was looking at Exchange ActiveSync which will let you sync on a schedule, as will Mail, News, Facebook, Weather, etc. For Google it's either on or off.
An interesting update on my battery problem. After I did the factory reset and restarting it in the morning, my battery has only dropped 9%. So maybe a little factory reset doesn't hurt (except that it was a pain to sort through the apps i wanted back on my phone).
I figured out what was going on in my phone, at least. The built in, HTC-provided facebook and twitter apps were going nuts updating. I removed those accounts from the sync menu so they couldn't sync, and I am now back to my expected, full-day battery life. If you are having a similar problem, and have provided your account info to either of those apps, try removing it. I saw almost instantaneous improvements, and I was quickly back to my display using the most battery, instead of calendar.
That's good to know!
On a similar note, my battery was lasting maybe 1/2 day with little to no use. It was 14 months old. I bought a new battery on eBay for $4.50 plus about $5 shipping and it's back to new! Now, it's still 1/2 charged late at night with moderate use. I should have bought a new battery for it months ago, well worth the $10.
i think there are a few different issues people are talking about throughout this post. my issue that i'm having is my phone's battery will be fully charged but while using the phone and especially the camera, the phone will crash and then shutdown and when i reboot the battery shows it's fully dead and shuts down immediately again. if i wait awhile, i start up the phone again and the battery shows an accurate charge, almost full. this has only began happening after the latest software update 2.3.4 thank you very much, android. this has been very frustrating.
