App Loader/Set up

*** BACKING UP INFORMATION:

 

To back up data from the device to a computer using BlackBerry® Desktop Manager 6.0, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable. 
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click Device
  3. Click Back up
  4. Perform one of the following actions: 
    1. To back up all data, click Full Backup. 
    2. To back up all data except e-mail messages, click Quick Backup. 
    3. To select which types of data to back up, click Custom Backup and select the checkboxes next to the desired data.
  5. If desired, click Files saved on my built-in media storage
  6. Click Back up.

 

 

*** RELOADING SOFTWARE: These instructions will assist you in repairing most crashing/freezing or app errors that you may have with your blackberry.  Please see the bottom of the page for further instructions if the Desktop manager will not recognize the device.

 

 

 

  1. If necessary, download BlackBerry Desktop Manager from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/.  
  2. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.  
  3. Click on the Device menu and select Update my device, as in the following image:

  4. A dialog box appears and indicates that there are no BlackBerry Device Software updates available. Click View other versions in the lower left corner, as in the following image:

  5. The check box for the currently installed version is selected in the Available Versions list. Click the Install button, as in the following image:

  6. Select the check boxes for the appropriate update options (check backup device data if you want contacts saved) and click the Install Update button, as in the following image:

    The BlackBerry Device Software is reloaded on the BlackBerry smartphone.

Force detect instructions should be used if the Desktop manager does not detect that the blackberry is connected to it, or you haven an app error that will not go away

 

 

  1. On a computer, open Desktop Manager.  
  2. Remove the battery from the device.  
  3. Connect the device to the computer using a USB cable.  
  4. When the 'BlackBerry Desktop Software cannot communicate with the connected device' screen appears, click Update.

  5. Verify that a loading screen displays.  
  6. After 30 seconds, insert the battery.  
  7. Click Update.  
  8. When a new window appears, click Update.  
  9. Select or clear the Email Notifications check boxes, as desired.

  10. When the 'Update BlackBerry Device Software' message displays, click OK.

  11. When complete, click Close.

 

 

*** RESTORING INFORMATION:

 

To restore data from a backup file using BlackBerry® Desktop Manager 6.0, follow these steps:

 

Important: When you restore data to your BlackBerry device, all files that are stored on your device are deleted before the backup file is restored.

 

  1. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable. 
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click Device
  3. Click Restore
  4. Select the backup file you want to use. 
  5. Perform one of the following actions: 
  6. To restore all data, click Full restore
  7. To select which data you want to restore, click Custom restore and select the checkboxes for the desired data. 
  8. To restore data to built-in media storage, select the Files saved on my built-in media storage checkbox. 
  9. If the backup file is encrypted, enter the password. 
  10. Click Restore.
