The problem is fixed and both batteries, the new and old, are lasting several days. What seemed to change it was a setting I discovered that turns off the ability to recharge while connected to a computer. I don't know how it got set that way, but after I set it so it could charge from a computer, the battery life was longer. It makes no sense, but nothing else worked, including a new battery.
