My Samsung Exhibit 4G shuts off for some unknown reason. It will only restart after removing and then replacing the battery. Any ideas on why this is happening. any solutions for this problem?
Have not seen this. Maybe you should do an exchange. Also, review the apps you have installed. Make sure none of them are causing the boots and making it look like the phone is at fault.
Why has T-Mobile support not answered this question, I have the same issue and I would also like an answer because I am getting tired of taking my battery out to restart my phone. Just because this is not a common issue does not mean it does not exist in the phone. Exchanging phones only means that you might be exchanging one problem for another, if there are technical issues with the OS then T-Mobile should look into it and provide a reasonable answer. Not exchange phones and let the problem exist with resolution.
Thanks so much for the post, this is not a known issue for this device however this is an issue that can evolve on any android device and is typically a software problem so here is the troubleshooting that will resolve the issue:
1. If the issue started after installing a specific application uninstall that application and retest, if that's not the case or you are not sure proceed to step 2.
2. Master reset the device without the memory card in the phone, those instructions can be found here along with a link for backing up your data http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2404
3. Once the device is master reset skip the initial sign in process, this will prevent any applications from automatically reinstalling to the device that could be causing the problem. Feel free to insert your memory card and open the market application and sign into gmail after getting to the home screen.
4. Run the device vanilla (no applications or extras) for a few days, once you have confirmed the problem is gone feel free to reinstall applications slowly so that you are aware which application is causing you grief so that you can avoid it in the future.
Mine is doing the same thing right now...and won't let me dial out! I too have experienced the phone shutting down...Don't know what the solution is...Happy Thanksgiving...this is crazy! HELP!!!!
Sorry to hear you are experiencing it as well lotus but thanks for letting us know you are having the same issue on the same device, please use my instructions above and let us know if it works and we can assist you from there.
This is extremely frustrating. Mine does the exact same thing too. I bought my phone 3 days ago. It started doing it yesterday or today. It got worse throughout the day, and now it won't even turn on even if I remove the battery and put it back in again.
Thanks so much for posting we do not want you to have to go through this please follow my steps above and if that does not resolve the issue since you have only had the phone for 3 days you can take advantage of buyers remorse for a replacement or for a different model if you choose. If there is a price difference you are responsible for that.
Mine sometimes reboots for no apperant reason! I dont have to pull anything cause it shuts off then comes right back as if it rebooted it has done this more than 3times since i got the phone!
This happened to me the other day -- I was in the middle of something and it froze and then shut down. I had to take the battery out and reinsert it to get the phone going again. It hasn't happened since so I just chalked it up to a glitch.
Actually all you have to do t-mobile is Google this issues and see that is apparently an inherent software problem. For some unknown reason, Vanilla or not the phones shut down without cause. Mine has rebooted itself for no apparent reason on several occasions now. I have also had it turn off and had to pull the battery at least once.
I AM HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE!! I just got this phone!!! It froze up over night and then my alarm didnt go off and I was really late for work. I have noticed this rebooting thing happening AT LEAST TEN TIMES A DAY!!! ...what is going on!? I do not have any apps that would do this. I only have like four apps installed... facebook, skype, gmail, huffington post and thats it! WHHHYYYYY TMOBILE?! My g2x did the same **** thing.. so I sold it to get this one, because it had the top ratings in the price range that was right for me.. now.. it just has a mind of its own like my previous phone. PLEASE HELP.
@Tmo-Keith_M Mine has done the same thing from the beginning along with all the other 'known issues' that have never gotten fixed by Tmobile or Samsung. The phone sometimes randomly turns off by itself...It can be sitting on a nightstand in the middle of the night and wake me up or it can be the middle of the day not in use and it will just turn off. It also will often turn off/on AFTER I take the battery out AFTER it has frozen (which happens daily) and I need to reset it. It is totally random and not related to apps as it has happened with a handful or apps or with lots of apps, has happened after factory resets, and after deleting the most recently added apps. And even with no apps added, it seems totally random....sometimes it wont turn off/on, sometimes it will only do that a few times, and sometimes it will literally happen for hours...Once it happened for 15 hours before I totally gave up. Two manufacturer repairs, dozens of factory resets and endless calls to Tmobile Support and emails to TForce have led to nothing but "We know these are known issues...we're working with Samsung on a fix, however we have no date." For the record, since the phone came out - not a single software update so it doesnt seem anyone is working on these issues. One Tmobile Tech Support supervisor told me he had all the same problems and he ended up getting rid of the phone after a month and he told me not to hold my breath for any Tmo fix because its just not gonna happen.
@muse827, Ive had the same freezing problems since the phone was sent to me last November. The phone freezes at least once or twice every single day, forcing me to take the battery out and reset the phone. Then, after I do that, it sometimes will start turning off and on. Also, even when not frozen, it will randomly turn off when its on a nightstand or a coffee table not in use. And what you mentioned about the alarm clock happened to me just this morning. Luckily, I had set my clock radio too because I just dont trust this phone. Otherwise, I would have missed my appointment and been out $200.
Unfortunately Tmobile (or Samsung) havent done anything about these issues. They just keep saying these are known issues with the device and we're working on a fix...but they havent done anything in all that time so I wouldnt expect much. I even went through 2 manufacturer repairs within the first 60 days and the phones always had the same problems.
Same problem with my phone since I got it last August. Especially bad lockup and spontaneous reboot frequency when using either Google Maps or Telenav. Sometimes it just locksup overnight. And from what I'm reading, doing a master reset won't solve the problem. It would be nice if T-mobile and Samsung came up with a fix before my contract is up.
