I don't use it myself since I use my phone as the modem at home anyway but I have heard from before that there is some kind of issue with the software that possibly could cause it not to work for some and there will be some kind of software update to fix it in the future.
Not sure when though.
If not something you can get working at home try at a different location to make sure nothing in the router you have is blocking it. sometimes it can.
if you are in the first 14 days (30 in california) you can take back and switch for a different phone if that is something you are going to rely on. Sensation is the HTC equivilent of that phone and seems to work really good on that my friend uses it all the time on his.
I just picked up the Amaze 4g and I know with the Galaxy S II both do not have it yet will be a update in november sometimes to get it.
I've been using wifi calling for some time now.. Some times it can be poor quality(sounds choppy). But for the most part I really haven't had any trouble connecting or using the wifi calling feature, and it works. When I leave my house my wifi will disconnect by itself with no problem. Then when I come back home it connects (by itself) to wifi and wifi calling automatically starts. Sorry to hear your having troubles. maybe a defective devise? Maybe your router?
What's your take on T-mobile saying that it's actually an issue with T-mobile? When I called... a second tech support person said that they recently sited this as an "emerging issue" ... and that they are seeing this issue nation wide.
Are either of you using the LG G2X phone right now with Wifi Calling? I guess I'm just trying to find out if other G2X users are also having Wifi Calling issues...
Well if tmo said this then probably the majority of the phones do have this problem... I can't say. I just kno not all g2x are with this problem. I'm not currently on wifi calling as I'm at work. my wife stays home all day and stays connected to wifi calling. never misses a call. I can call her right now and talk for an hour if we wanted. I connect to wifi calling as soon as I walk on my front porch. like I stated before sometimes it is choppy, but very rare and usually a reboot will fix this, But I read in these g2x forums that many others are having the same problem as U... Guess were fortunate. I also have a buddy I work with that has no issues with his wifi calling... His phone reboots by itself, not very often but it does..
I actually dont see any threads in this forum (for G2x) regarding this issue... which is why I'm confused? If this is a nation wide issue, I would think there would some indication in this forum that Wifi Calling for the G2x is having issues.
Update: I called T-mobile again today and pleaded my case. I understand they are troubleshooting the issue. but meantime, I'm running the risk of incurring overages since we only signed up for the 500 plan (expecting to be able to use Wifi Calling). They've kindly upgraded my account to the Unlimited plan for the next 30 days for free hoping that this issue will be fixed by then. I thought that was pretty classy of them.
Lastly, I can't believe all the trash talk I am reading regarding the G2x... yet over 400 reviews still has it at 4 out of 5 stars in rating. I don't get it, but it makes me worried. Perhaps it's the case of people with issues will be more outspoken than those who are satisfied with the product. I just hope my phone is not a lemon like perhaps these guys are saying.
Exactly,,, u might see complaint after complaint, but in reality there are more people with fully fictional g2x's then there are with defective devises. U just don't see it cuz like hidden dragon said, theres no need for them to be posting on these forums. That's y you see mostly negative. And there was a thread on wifi calling for the g2x, but I don't see it anymore.
Just did test mine out at a friends and is also working.
Does not mean there is not a problem.
There very well still can be a problem depending on ISP and router type and other things.
Wi-Fi calling is highly complex and there could be a number of things causing blocks so may be unique to a few different things.
Sorry about that... let me clarify.
I turn on Wifi and successfully connect to my router at home. I see the wifi signal strength in the status bar and I have good signal. I can also browse the web.
Then I open the Wifi Calling app. I press the "On" button below. Then it just sits there with:
"Please wait while connecting to T-mobile network..." (or something to that effect).
And it will stay like for hours with no change.
So for me, I guess the problem is the phone cannot register to the T-mobile network. I have yet to try another wifi network to completely rule out my network at home, but after working with T-mobile for a whole evening on this, they seem to think it's a problem with "them", not my home network.
As soon as I get a chance though... I'll definitely try another wifi network to be completely sure. (it's my wife's phone, so it's not easy to do these tests right away)
I also just want to find out if there are other G2x users having the same issue to validate that this is a much broader issue. I just don't see any other posts in this forum to indicate that. Anyway... T-mobile felt it warranted to give me a free upgrade to the Unlimited plan, so I have to assume they know the problem is with them.
I'm just also trying to be prudent and prevent being strung along. Since I am a new customer, I may be able to back out of this contact is I act sooner than later. T-mobile says they are working on the issue and suggest it should be resolved soon.
I still can't get my G2X to connect to the T-mobile network for Wifi Calling to work. Again I get no error messages, it just sits there saying "Please wait while connecting to the T-mobile network." It's strange that if this an nationwide issue, why it seems like I'm the only having this problem.
I've tried it at two different locations/routers/ISP... and I get the same result. So I sure it's not my router/setup at home (also given that T-mobile already admitted its an issue with them). Just hoping they fix it soon. Again... I'm happy they upgraded me to the Unlimited Plan for free until 11/24 (end of my billing cycle). The rep was confident the issue will be resolved by then. The only problem until then is Tombile signal at house sucks... and that's what I really needed wifi calling for. Hopefully when it does start working... it will be reliable - there seems to be mixed feedbacks about its reliability, but I suppose that coule because of the all the varying pieces in between (router/ISP/etc)...
My G2x does the exact thing described here in the above posts. You are not alone. Wifi works just fine for my wife's optimus phone and always has. With my phone it just sits there enabling for hours. I have tried it on several wifi networks because I travel and it has never "enabled." I have an unlimited plan so it is not a big deal, except that I am currently in an area with wifi but no network signal. So I can surf the web and everything else, but I cannot call my family. Bummer.
