Static sound in earpiece, even when no call in progress?

I have a myTouch by LG. It has a faint static sound that comes from the earpiece speaker whenever the phone is active (the screen is on). The static sound is audible during voice calls, too. It can't be heard through a plugged-in, wired headset.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

My phone is only a few days old, so noit much expience with it yet.  I did notice some static when on speakerphone, not always, but at times.  I do not hear this at all when I'm on my Bluetooth headset and listening to music

Thanks @barryrumac, I only hear static on the earpiece speaker, not the speakerphone on the back of the phone. It's not super loud, but noticeable during quiet times on a call, or if the screen is on and I hold the phone up to my ear.

thanks, seti.  I usually hold my phone when I use the speakerphone function, but I'll listen for it under differnet scenarios.  If it is a constant across different users then there might be a firmware issue.

                Hi seti,

I will need a little more information in order to better assist you. Did you notice this issue the 1st day you started using this phone? If you power the phone off, do you hear it as soon as it comes on? Are you connected to bluetooth, wi-fi or wi-fi calling?

Hi @alicia_b, Customer Care replaced my first phone with this issue, but the replacement phone has the same behavior. I have another myTouch by LG phone on a different line, and it does not have this issue.

I noticed the noise the first time I started up the replacement phone, because I was paying attention for it. It's an intermittent static/clicking noise that sounds a bit like a Geiger counter. The noise is not loud, but can be heard at quiet times during a phone conversation.

After powering the phone off and turning it back on, with the handset held up to my ear, I could hear the noise start a couple of seconds after the "LG" logo was displayed on screen, and before the T-Mobile jingle sound was played.

I do have the Wi-Fi radio running much of the time. I do not use Wi-Fi calling (yet), or the Bluetooth radio.

Other than this issue (and it isn't a big one), I like this phone a lot. It's got a ton of features and a nice physical design, especially for the price.

I HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE! BUT IT HAS GOTTEN VERY ANNOYING NOW! I HAVE GONE THROUGH FOUR PHONES OF THE SAME MYTOUCH LG AND I HAVE HAD TO SEND THEM BACK BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM THE STATIC IS VERY ANNOYING AND THEY DONT WANT TO GIVE ME ANOTHER DIFFRENT PHONE!

Since I only notice this issue in very quiet environments (somehow, there's always some background noise going on around me), it hasn't bothered me recently. Perhaps some handsets are worse than others, though, and I hope you were able to resolve this issue to your satisfaction! It's a good phone for the price point, and they recently started sending out software updates to Android version 2.3.6.
