you need to do all the steps! if you just do step 11, it will not work. you need to back up to computer through itunes then Ibackupbot you will look for you backup file and do Step 5 . Without step 5 your phone will not work this is the missing part from your phone.
1. Backup your iPhone 4S in iTunes
2. Download, install and open iBackupBot (Google it)
3. Select your recent iPhone backup
4. Find and open the file named "com.apple.mms_override.plist"
5. Delete the text in this file and replace it with
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
6. Save the changes
7. Exit iBackupBot and open iTunes
8. Restore your iPhone with the most recent backup
9. After your iPhone reboots go to Settings>General>Network and turn on Data Roaming
10. While still in Network settings go to >Cellular Data Network and enter "epc.tmobile.com" as the APN for Cellular Data and Internet Tethering
11. Enter the following for MMS settings:
MMS Proxy: 184.108.40.206:8080
NOTE: Leave all other fields empty, if they have anything in them, delete it.
What did you do to be able to receive mms? I am able to send but not receive. Any suggestions would be great!
I have tried this method and I still am unable to use mms!!!
I just got my 4S today & I'm trying to go through the steps....
Problem is the iBackupBot downoad. It's downloaded & open...but I can't get it to open/pull-up my iPhone backup so that I can proceed.
This totally worked!!! Thank you so much for sharing this information.
Thanks, smlbox! This does work! For iCloud users, complete the step below prior to step 1 so that you can use iBackupBot:
Step 0: If you're using iCloud to backup your iPhone, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > and turn iCloud Backup to "off".
Now you can connect your phone to iTunes, right click on your iPhone, and perform your backup.
I'm told that the iPhone, or any other "unlocked" phone not by TMO but used with TMO Sim, they're essentially a "mock" version- not all of the orig phone functions will work as you're experiencing with the mms.
I have no personal experience, I only learned that when asking sales/store mgr at corp TMO retail store about unlocked phones and how to supply them within our network, and that's what he said.
.how's the functionality with iPhone in every other way....honestly?
I'd love to have an iPhone on TMO.
If your iPhone is already jailbroken you can do that much faster & easier...
There's no really point to backup, edit the backup file and restore it just to edit 1 file when you can edit that file right on iPhone.
1. Open Cydia and download iFile
2. In iFile navigate to:
3. Open that with text viewer, delete everything and paste that longer code:
4. Click "Save" & "Done" and reboot your iPhone
5. Should work
Just got my MMS back after trying different settings for 5 days! Tried getting FaceTime to work and ended up losing my MMS and not getting FaceTime to work. Followed the steps through iFile and DONE! Thanks for the step by step! No FaceTime still but got my MMS back!
Step 11 is wrong. The reason why you need to edit your carrier bundle is because you are changing the UserAgent string since T-Mobile doesn't recognize the iPhone as a full-featured multimedia device.
Also, For reference, the UaProf for the Sony phone that we are spoofing is: http://wap.sonyericsson.com/UAprof/W800iR101.xml Try this if you are having issues with the Apple one.
