If that's the case then I'm afraid you don't have much of a complaint. If a 12-month warranty renewed in full every time a replacement was issued, you could buy one phone and potentially receive infinite support. No warranty works like that. You have to pay for extensions beyond the standard term.
It's a known MANUFACTURING DEFECT. HTC shouldn't charge the customer to fix THEIR defect.
I was wondering if you could potentially help me as well. I as well as my wifes MyTouch 3g slide are doing the same thing, it all started in the past 3 or 4 days. I have narrowed it down to being keyboard related, as soon as I slide it open my screen will go black for a number of hours, resets, restarts, batter pulls etc. until they screen comes back up. Can you possibly assist?
Let me know if that works, I have 2 of these that both started doing this in the past 3 days and both are out of warranty! I've seen the instructional video online of how to change them, it doesn't look too difficult
Will let you know how it works out. The cable should be here today or tomorrow.
This is the THIRD 3G Slide that has had these problems in our house (two of mine, one of my wife's).
$15 on ebay, worth a shot.
I fixed it. Flex ribbon cable: $15 on ebay.
I have several years of bench/PCB electronics experience, so it was pretty easy for me.
I will probably have to do the same thing for my wife's phone soon (her display is starting to get flakey).
So the reason the screen blacks out is bc of a ribbon in the slide piece? Tmobile told me it was bc it had been dropped or that the battery had gotten wet so it was shorting out....Ive had mine 8 months and personally dont plan on spending 15 bucks of my money to fix a defect due to the phone and HTC's errors. But at least I now know it wasnt MY fault like they tried to say it was. Im getting a replacement to hold me over till tax time then Im getting something different from a mytouch or anything HTC related.
That's only speculation. You won't know what caused or is the problem sort of disassemble the phone.
If the phone was dropped it could have caused the cable to get loose or damaged.
If there are no physical damage cracks on the phone or water damage I would call them back to see of warranty is valid for replacement. Those are really the only things that would invalidate your warranty or if you bought your phone other then thru T-Mobile.
Yeah Im getting a replacement but my phones never been dropped and it just started within the last 4 days and its random how it does it....like when i really need it to work to make a call. My problem is how good is the replacement going to be? I dont wanna get stuck with just a slightly newer or refurbished version of my phone that has new problems. But its good to know that you were able to find that piece on ebay and fix yours. Its also good to know its not just me having this issue. But that its all the mytouch 3gs that are having it so Tmobile cant make me look like its my fault any more.
Hey my screen went black all of a sudden too can you share what the fix was?:
Flex ribbon cable.
HTC manufacturing defect.
The same thing happened to me. The screen went black and I can't use my phone.
