I do have unlimited data plan with 2GB@4G speed.
I was using this feature occasionally and worked great.
But now it does not working anymore, is this due to the new UVKL1 upgrade?
Any more important, now the phone itself (without tethering) is going nowhere but my.t-mobile.com.
This is more serious issue. How can I fix that and why does this happen after UVKL1 upgrade?
From what I've been told by T-Mobile representatives, there are two issues:
- Tethering is truly broken on Monthly4G sims since the newest update resulting in these redirects to t-mobile.com
- Tethering is truly broken on the Monthly4G $30 100 minute plan since T-Mobile limits it to 200 Mb AND no more and will not allow us to even add on the mobile hotspot feature even if we wanted to.
However, the mobile hotspot feature is NOT required and cannot even be added on to the Monthly4G plan.
Regarding 1, I've spoken to tech support and advanced tech support, and they are trying to reproduce it, which seems odd, since I don't know anyone who has it working since the newest update.
Regarding 2, it's pretty outrageous -- before getting the phone and the plan I called up T-Mobile at least 5 times, mentioning each and every time I wanted to tether my phone on Monthly4G and not a single T-Mobile representative told me that it was only 200Mb. In fact, each and everyone told me the 5Gb plan I had on the plan was mine to do as I wanted incuding tethering the whole thing. I'm more than a bit annoyed with this. I wouldn''t be pleased, but I would add in mobile hotspot if you guys would just let me.
Regardless, tethering is broken with the update.
Actually let me clarify my prior post.
I have not been told by T-Mobile representatives that Tethering on Monthly4G is broken. That is my conclusion AFTER speaking to them and getting the answers I wrote about.
From discussions with advanced tech support, I think T-Mobile is still chasing the problem down. The guy I was speaking to mentioned that it works for them fine on their SIMS. Regardless, I have no evidence it works for anyone on Monthly4G, and I've seen several reports that it is broken just as we've experience -- we try and we get redirects to the T-Mobile site.
So if you're experiencing this problem, my suggestion is you keep calling T-Mobile and documenting the problem to help them understand who it's affecting.
That is very interesting. Would you give a bit more detail?
Are you talking about one phone?
It works with one sim and not with the other sim?
Are you monthly4G user?
Is the phone upgraded to UVKL1?
Are both SIM cards same?
Or one is TM9177 and another is TM9073 (printed on the SIM card)? If so, which one works?
I had TM9073 with orginal software and worked fine. When I upgraded to UVKL1, I have to change SIM card to TM9177 to support wifi calling, then tethering does not work anymore.
Thanks a lot.
it is two sim cards the same kind one with $50.00 prepaid plan And one with $60.00 prepaid plan. same phone the one with $50.00 plan can Tethering and the one with $60.00 no. means the problem is on t-mobile system and not the phone. i am very disappointed with the capacity of the advance tech. support that is looking for excuse to not help customers. I am still on the 30 days trial to return the phone. and will return if the issue is not fixed by 01/02/2012
Thanks for the info.
I am getting more and more frustrated. Now it has nothing to do with tethering.
My phone (without tethering enabled and after many reboots) is still going nowhere but my.t-mobile.com.
I paid $600 for the phone and $60 for the plan just to access t-mobile.com, what a joke.
I talked to T-Mobile customer service which is absolutely helpless.
I had the same problem after the update. As I was looking through the various settings in Wireless and network, I found out that my Access Point Name (epc.tmobile.com) had become unchecked (Wireless and network | Mobile networks | Access Point Names). Problem fixed after re-checking the option (giving it a filled in green circle).
One other thing to try: set the unit into airplane mode and then back to normal (non-airplane mode). I once got stuck with the re-direct webscreen after tyring to tether (the screen that says you don't have a tethering dataplan) and going into airplane mode cleared whatever condition was causing the networking software to think I was still trying to tether (even after I had turned off tethering).
