So, T-Mobile keeps telling me to talk to LG about why the G-Slate is running obsolete software. Because they made it and they're responsible for the software updates. Makes sense, right? Here's a transcript of a conversation I just had with LG...I wonder who's telling the truth?
(You might also note the OBVIOUS lack of knowledge coming from the first LG representative in this chat session, lol)
Jermel: Hello John Mack. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A.! How may I provide you with excellent service today?
John Mack: I want to know when my G-Slate will recieve an OS update to AT LEAST 3.2. If not Android 4.0
John Mack: It's absolutely crazy that I paid so much money for something that is physically superior to man of the tablets on the market and we're still runnig an out of date OS
Jermel: Hello there, how are you doing today?
John Mack: I'm fine. But I want an answer to my question, please
Jermel: I am glad to hear you are well
Jermel: At the moment there is no information about an update on this unit.
John Mack: Well, we need to find one. You're sticking us with an OS that's a year obsolete. This is not what your customers are paying for.
John Mack: There is no acceptable reason as to why you can't provide an update for a device that is perfectly capable of running the current OS version. So what's the deal?
Jermel: Ok, I could understand your point of view.
Jermel: but at the moment there is no updates on this matter.
John Mack: That's not going to work for me
John Mack: You need to help me find out what's going on. I put to much money into this thing for you to blow me off with an "I don't know"
John Mack: LG made the device. LG needs to now what's going on with it
Jermel: Please understand that we are not able to provide you with a undate that is not out.
John Mack: Fine. I do understand that
Jermel: We manufacture the units
Jermel: We do not make the software or OS
John Mack: But an update IS out. And it's your job to push it to your customers
John Mack: Your device is running Android 3.1 The current version of that build is 3.2
John Mack: and the current verion of the operating system itself is 4.0
Jermel: I am sorry but we are not able to push an update
John Mack: So don't tell me that an update isn't out
John Mack: Because you're two versions behind
John Mack: So I want to know WHEN it is going to happen
Jermel: We do not have a date for that
John Mack: Someone knows something
Jermel: At the moment there is no information on a update for this unit.
John Mack: There is information somewhere
John Mack: You need to find it
John Mack: It's not right
John Mack: For you to take someone's money and then not provide proper support on the device they sunk hundreds of dollars into
Jermel: once again how could we find something that we do not have?
John Mack: The software is OUT there! So why don't we have it?!
John Mack: I'll say it again
Jermel: Please understand that Google is the one that creates the Android OS.
John Mack: I'll go slo
John Mack: try to keep up
Jermel: If they have not released and update for this unit
Jermel: There is nothing we could
John Mack: I DO understand that Google creates the OS
John Mack: What YOU need to understand is they HAVE released updated software
Jermel: Please understand that you are not the only customer I am assisting.
John Mack: The version the G-Slate runs is 3.1
John Mack: Google is up to 4.0
Jermel: There is not a update OS.
John Mack: So why aren't we?
John Mack: WHY NOT?!
John Mack: THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO FIND OUT!!
Jermel: I am not able to tell you the reason why since we do not develop the OS
John Mack: YOU made the device it's YOUR responsibility to provide the updates that Google has ALREADY made available!
Jermel: We only manufacture the unit.
John Mack: you don't have a clue what you're talking about
John Mack: I want to talk to a supervisor
Jermel: because the update is out.
Jermel: Does not mean that it was out for this unit
Jermel: The update is not universal
John Mack: BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T RELEASEDIT!
John Mack: I want your supervisor
Jermel: It has to be done for specific units.
John Mack: now
John Mack: you're clueless
Jermel: Because google has not released it.
Jermel: Sure please hold online.
John Mack: YES THEY HAVE!! IT'S NOT THEIR JOB TO UATE YOUR UNIT!
Notice: Jermel transferred John Mack to John.
Notice: John has joined the chat session.
Notice: Jermel has exited the chat session.
John: I am going thru this chat.
John: Please bear online.
John Mack: Ok
John: Thank you for holding while I reviewed the conversation I would be glad to submit a formal complaint on your behalf regarding the delay on us developing an update software for the unit but unfortunately I do not have information on when a new one will be released it has not yet been discussed
John Mack: Why not? How long has this thing been on the market?
John Mack: Why are we watching other tablets with lower grade hardware pass us by?
John Mack: What is LG THINKING?
John Mack: I paid too much money for this. This is not right
John Mack: And I don't want another blow off. I want somebody to ACTUALLY help me find some answers
John Mack: And on TOP of all of this. Who does that last guy think he is?
John Mack: Talking to a customer like that when he obviously had no idea what HE was talking about?
John Mack: Seriously?
John Mack: Hello?
John: Unfortunately at the ,moment there is not a date I can give you of when a new update will be released. I must say the service that the representative provided is definitely below what you deserve as a customer
John Mack: I appreciate the appology for the last associate
John: I will make sure that he representative receives some type of penalty
John: I must say it is an embarrassment when this happens
John Mack: However, I am still not satisfied with "I don't know". If you don't know then I need to know WHY you don't know. The G-Slate is being passed up by many less capable devices and it's frustrating and unaccptable to just leave us sitting here wondering if we paid or a $500 paperweight
John Mack: Please help me get some answers
John Mack: Because this really is not right. They current OS on this device is two versions behind. That makes absolutely no sense. Especially since the newer OS versions are both LESS physically demanding than the version we seem to be stuck with
John Mack: So where is the support for the G-Slate? Why are we not getting any? What is going on?
John Mack: I honestly feel like I paid hundreds of dollars for something that is recieving no support. And that's not right
John: I would like to help you get to the bottom of this situation but I am afraid that there has not been any update discussion for the product at all. If you feel that we as a company are not giving you the proper support I will be glad to submit a formal complaint on your behalf but I don't have another option
John Mack: But WHY has there not been any discussion?!
John Mack: WHY have so many people put so much money into this thing only for you to turn around and not support your own device?
John Mack: WHY is LG not doing their customers right by simply releasing the update OS?
John Mack: I don't WANT a formal complaint. What I WANT is for somebody to give me some ANSWERS
John Mack: I paid too much dang money for this thing! Somebody needs to give me some answers
John: We create the device but at T mobile request the software is created
John Mack: LIES!
John Mack: I'm here because T-Mobile sent me to YOU!
John: If we have not made any is because the carrier has not requested any to be made
John Mack: T-Mobile says it's on you
John Mack: You say it's on T-Mobile
John Mack: ONE OF YOU IS LYING.
John: We make the hardware of the product
John Mack: AND you're responsible for providing the software updates
John Mack: That's common knowlege
John Mack: The manufacturer provides the software
John: At carriers request
John Mack: And the updates
John Mack: Then why would THEY tell me to call YOU?
John: I have no intention to be an obstacle for you although I understand if you feel that way because I do not have an answer to give you other than the one provided which is that there is not a date of an update since we have not receive a request from the carrier. Did you speak with a manager or supervisor at T mobile ?
John Mack: Yes! Several!!
John Mack: How about this
John Mack: The Optimus pad
John Mack: G-slate that ISN'T on T-Mobile's netwrk
John Mack: what OS version is IT running?
John Mack: Because it's the same device. Without T-Mobile carrying it
John: I cannot say what O.S. is on the Optimus pad because it is not made for the U.S. market and this support site only has information on products for the U.S. market
John Mack: Clever. But not good enough
John Mack: Who is responsible for "requesting" a software update if the device is WiFi only?
John Mack: Because there are a SLEW of WiFi only devices out there that are still recieving OS updates. And they don't have a carrier to "request" and update from the manufacturer. That's just stupid and I'm offended that anybody would think I would buy such an obvious scapegote of an answer
So, LG makes the thing. T-Mobile sells it. And neither of them seem interested in taking ownership over providing support for the device that they are BOTH responsible for. Meanwhile, we the customer have to pay for their bad business. How sad is that?
