HTC recently mentioned that they will be working on upgrading their phones to 4.0. I really hope HTC and T-Mobile work hard at bringing ICS to the G2. Phone is still great and runs smooth. Will love the new features that ICS will bring. I just dont want it too take too long and i really dislike the bloatware T-Mobile put on this phone. But im wating patiently now, so T-Mobile and HTC please Bring 4.0 to G2!!
I dunno nuthin about ICS....so was googling to find out what it was. And found this site about how to install it. However, it has WARNINGS that you really need to know what yr doing. Plus the reviews say it doesn't work right. So......'user beware' !!!!! http://androidadvices.com/htc-desire-mobile-g2-steps-install-android-ice-cream-sandwich-40-firmware/
Wouldnt get your hopes up. ICS hasnt officially been released i dont think. Plus, the g2 is discontinued, so i think the priority would be phones that are still being sold. By the time ICS becomes widespread enough for the g2 to get it, the g2 will be so dated i dont think anyone would even think to give it to the g2. Kinda like how you dont see the g1 getting gingerbread. As much as i would love to see ICS come to the g2, i just dont think it will be realistic for t-mo to bother with it. Maybe there will be a G3 by then *fingers crossed*
no luck for the g2.. not getting ICS according to the following..
HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we're thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners. We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.
T-Mobile is committed to enhancing customers' experience with our devices, including providing upgrades to the latest Android operating system -- Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). We are actively working with our OEM partners to ensure that a number of eligible T-Mobile devices are upgraded to Android 4.0 in the coming months and will communicate updates as we have additional details to share. Today, we can confirm that Android 4.0 is expected to come in early 2012 to the HTC Amaze 4G and HTC Sensation 4G.
i disagree. they never said the g2 wasn't going to get it. they are only testing right now. im hoping it can recieve the update due to the stock and the available storage space. processer may be the only concern.
As mentioned, nothing in your post indicates that the G2 won't get 4.0 as you mentioned. Actually, this is from the link you posted:
"Note: If you don't see your device listed, don't fret... yet. If it hasn't been confirmed or denied, the OEM's likely still deciding which products will get the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. Keep checking back here from time to time, as we'll continue to update the list.
So I fail to see how "this article" states the G@ won't be getting 4.0.
well maybe in my hurry to post i was not as clear. that acording to the release information at that time (time of posted article) there were no plans for the g2, also seeing as it is no longer avail, and manufactures usually dont support discontinued devices that there was little to no hope for ICS in the G2.
i say this only from my experiance from motorolla's I1. its stuck in 1.5, i wish it could of gone to 2.2, but no luck. i only got it cuz i need to have the direct talk from nextel, for work. and at the time and i belive is the only one avail with android os. (btw, its the only thing i use it for)
i hope i cleared up my thoughts from the article.
well, I was watching such topics for some time. including official HTC update confirmations published on facebook:
I couldn't resist on getting some information straight from HTC though regarding ICS plans for T-Mobile G2 by HTC, and so I did:

finally, they acknowledge?
I'd settle for getting Gingerbread on my myTouch4G sometime soon!
eeeek. I think we won't see the ICS 4.0 on G2 after all.
while all newer phones at HTC are getting updates to 4.0, I found out (on HTC FB page in comments) they started updating older Desire S (not far from Z line which G2 belongs to) to GB 2.3.5 instead, probably to address bugs (wifi, bt, missing pics & ringtones, battery drain etc.).
also I found out that HTC unlocked the bootloader on G2, sounds like an open invitation to rooting:
I guess we will have to load our own version of ICS using modded custom ROMs instead of waiting for official one.
on the other hand Turkish HTC published official ICS 4.0 roll out on plans/dates on their FB page, screenshot below:
It says that Desire Z family (which I believe G2 belongs to) is still "not rated yet" (henuz onaylanmadi) while others are being rated (onaylandi), accepted (evet) or declined (ICS gelmeyecek) already.
OK, I'm done with waiting for HTC and T-Mobile on their final word. I think they are done with updating G2 and it's stuck on 2.3.4 version which I don't like too much. it's got some "issues".
Here's what looks like so far best available ICS alternative to G2 ROMs and I also gave up on CyanogenMod ROM 9 (too buggy for me after reading comments on many forums like xda):
I will be giving Andromadus v10 a try over the weekend, hopefully it runs OK!
T-Mobile now has the G2 available for purchase again. Maybe it will receive ICS? I guess we will wait and see.

incredible. both G2 and G2x which were declared EOL, are back to live again in T-Mo store, interesting.
I haven't tried Andromadus v10 ROM, because it has still 2 major issues: camera doesn't work (only low-res pics and no video at all), and GPS is "kinda working" (per developer comments) ... so I will pass and wait until they improve it further.
from a small chat with xda members I learned that HTC hasn't released some drivers to public yet and that is why they cannot finish camera support. not sure about the GPS trouble in that ROM.
Retrieving data ...
