  • 137. Re: Any word on Gingerbread for Galaxy S 4G?

I am having the same problem with Gingerbread and Long text messages.

I just upgraded to Gingerbread last week on my Samsung Galaxy S 4g phone, and now long messages fail. I have to send them in little sentences in order to get through.

I know for sure that this has happened after the Gingerbread update, as I rarely ever used to get Failed Messages (Once in a blue moon).

Now it is consistently every time with messages I don't regard as long.

Before my messages had a (More..) to expand the message to its full length. I noticed with the new Gingerbread update, that the (More..) expansion feature is no longer there, and a message is just displayed in its fully capacity.

Perhaps because of that, messages have to be shorter now to compensate?

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

I would like to dig a little deeper in your account and make sure you have an up to date sim since that is what the engineering department advised for sad.  Can you private message me your name and mobile number so I can take a look?

private message me by clicking my name and then the "send private message" on the right

    Please help!

I've read this entire thread in hopes of solving my issue with Gingerbread on my Samsung Galaxy S 4G.

It seems like the long text message problem is something that isn't new, and I'm quite frustrated with the "failed" messages that my phone keeps telling me.

I also have problems with the GPS. I used to use the "Maps" app quite frequently, and I LOVED how fast it was on froyo. However, after updating with Gingerbread, my maps takes forever to load if at all. I am an avid foursquare user, but I failed to check in into many places because my GPS fails to work, or it says I am in a place that I was hours before.

I've tried everything (besides rooting) to fix these problems I have been having, like factory resetting, deleting as many apps as I could, but nothing seems to work.

Even before I factory resetted, I had issues with my phone freezing and extreme lag. However, I think the factory resetting fixed the freezing problem on my phone and helped somewhat with the lag issue, though there are instances where I think there is lag.

If someone could help me with this, I would really appreciate it!

    Hey angel,

Keith said the engineering team wants to check if we have old sim cards. I private messaged him my information, so hopefully the SIM card is the culprit.

At least I'm not the only one with this problem, that is reassuring because if more people have the problem, finding a solution will be taken more seriously.

  • 142. Re: Any word on Gingerbread for Galaxy S 4G?

Hi guys and girls. I really don't think its a sim card issue mine is only about two months old also why would an update affect a sim. I'll get a new one today and test it and let you all know the results.

    Thanks! Please keep us posted!

  • 144. Re: Any word on Gingerbread for Galaxy S 4G?

Update. Just put in my new sim card and guess what to my surprise it worked I can now send long texts again. What did strike me as strange the rep at t-mobile store said t-mobile. switched to a 3gs network? Does that mean its not really 4g... Something to think about. Any truth to it and what does it really mean.. Again thanks to you reps that helped with the text issue. Also this may be the fix for other issues after updating. its worth a shot.

  • 145. Re: Any word on Gingerbread for Galaxy S 4G?

Another update. I just tried to send a text and it was about 155 characters and as has been the problem it FAILED AGAIN. I'm going to have to call tmo now and see what the next step is apparently the new sim didn't do the trick. I really hope I don't need a new device because this one is brand new not a refurb unless they'll give me a galaxy s 2. even if its a refurb.

  • 146. Re: Any word on Gingerbread for Galaxy S 4G?

P.S. can we somehow shorten this thread its getting long and the stuff in the beginning is old. Thank you.

  • 147. Re: Any word on Gingerbread for Galaxy S 4G?

Got my hopes up there for a second haha

Did you notice that before the Gingerbread update, we had a (More...) feature when a long message is sent or received. We simply would press "more", and it would open up the rest of the message.

Well, the amount of sentences and characters that could be read before having to press (More...), so happens to be the amount of characters we can currently send before it fails.

Since the (More...) feature is missing, and it just so happens the limit on the message is in accordance with what we could see without it, I wonder if there is any correlation there.

Perhaps the (More...) feature needs to come back in an update even though I disliked it, or maybe this limit was purposely designed that way to stay consistent?

  • 148. Re: Any word on Gingerbread for Galaxy S 4G?

Yes I did. I send a lot of big text messages and this is aggregating. I've noticed a lot of differences for instance the auto capitalization doesn't work good on emails or text messages I checked its turned on. Just a bunch of small issues but still aggrevating.

Got my hopes up there for a second hahaha..

sad>> keep us posted.. thanks for the update...

I would gladly to take the galaxy s 2 even if its refurb as long as tmo willing  to change my device.
