Same on my phone....no option to "Delete". It seems like a small thing but it is actually pretty frustrating.
I am having the exact same problem. This phone is an utter, utter joke. I am incensed at the mere fact that all of the obvious shortcuts are not even applicable. There is nothing more infuriating then going in to sent messages, selecting all, and then after hitting "Option" being asked if I want to unmark them.
The fact that the only fix will wipe out my contacts is infuriating and I cannot even move everything over to the piddly sim card because this paperweight is so buggy. I am thinking of launching this phone into space (we did send a man to the moon, right?) or crushing it with a 17 lb sledge hammer.
Can't take pictures, can't forward messages, all because I have "no memory."
Give me a break!
So...no workable fix and no recent response from T-Mobile? This LG phone has been out for at least a year- plenty of time for LG to fix this bug. I think it's perhaps time to check out some other carriers and phones...coverage is poor anyway.
I must apologize for the delay in replying. I wanted to be sure the steps I listed before were correct, and that I verrified them on a few devices. I have verified the below steps on more than one GS170, and have been successful each time.
So what I hear you saying is that after you mark all in step 6, and press options, you are given the choice to mark/unmark all again in step 7 and 8? I am unable to duplicate this error on any of the handsets I have.
When you go to Menu > Settings > Phone Information what software version / information does it show?
I figured out that this only happens after I have a certain number of messages in the sent box. When there are very few messages, these steps work. After I have a lot of messages, it doesn't work.
Which is still extremely inconvenient.
I can see how it would be inconvenient! I'm wondering if it's simply a phone memory issue...The phone doesn't give you the option to delete because it's too large amount of information for the processor to handle? When you say "a lot" can you give me a general idea....for example is alot 50 messages, 100 messages, 250 messages? I'm sure the length of the message could cause the number to vary, but a roundabout idea would help me very much!

Actually, I just tried it with 13 messages and it doesn't work. Sorry.
Thanks Jared. It is frustrating. I'm not sure what the trigger number is in the sentbox for the "Delete" option to disappear because mine typically stays above 400 as it would take a really long time delete to a lower number than that.

You do it the same way as with the inbox. Only difference is that you have to WAIT FOR IT TO SELECT THEM ALL! I just found that out! It will automatically close once you click on the "Mark All". THEN you'll get the delete on options. Sheesh!
That... doesn't make any sense. I have 13 messages in my sentbox. I can see that they are all marked. There is still no delete option.
What the silence from T-Mobile on this issue means is that all parties involved are not going to find a way to resolve this, so I'll just have to find another phone. And if this is the customer service we can expect from T-Mobile, I should look for a phone from a different carrier.
You're doing something wrong because I just deleted over 200 messages on mine. All I had to do was wait for the phone to select them all, it closed, I went to options and the first one was "Delete".

It's got to be your phone dude cause I have the same one and the delete pops right up for me.
I know how frustrating it is when most people either think you are a)inept b)'special' c)out of touch d)missing the most obvious point or e)all of the above.
It is not just your phone, it is mine and many others. I think it's great that you posted the video because it is the only thing that will shut some people up. The phone is simply buggy and the most hilarious part is everyone who thinks that somehow or another we are either not being patient enough or not pressing the right sequence of events. If you want some entertainment, just google this exact issue and you will see that you are in no way, shape, or form.
My solution was easy and free. I simply went into my workshop, grabbed a mini-sledge hammer, and pulverized this awful phone. I now communicate by writing letters and using pay phones....
I just registered on this site purely to save someone else the frustration of screwing around with one of these phones. I'm a Sprint user, but my girlfriend uses TMo.
Functional workaround for her handheld:
Go to Sent Items
Highlight and manually Mark ONE message (Don't Mark them all, only one)
With one message Marked, scroll down one and hit Options > Mark/Unmark > Mark All
When it's done Marking them all, the Options menu should then include Delete to delete all marked messages.
Hopefully this works for you! Definitely a software problem with this specific handheld, but hey, it's a $50 phone off the shelf.
