Can't turn the phone off

Usually when you turn the phone off, you need to hold the power button for a few seconds and then a power option menu pops up and it gives you the options of turn off, restart and flight mode. Now no matter how long I hold the power button, the menu doesn't show up. Did this happen to any of you? How can I fix it?

I have not seen it as an issue yet, but try doing a master reset and see if that clears the bug.

And you're holding the power button down while the phone screen is not locked, correct?

I heard of this in one other instance and I don't see a way to toggle that feature on/off.

I had this issue after the OTA update.  Factory data reset resolved it.

NB: The factory data reset will erase the internal SD card.  Make sure you have what you need off of it before you pull the trigger...

It only erases the SD card if you have that option checked when you select Factory Data Reset. If you leave that option unchecked, it's not supposed to erase it.

I have this same problem, just got a reply from HTC:

"Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about the issue you are having with not being able to power off your device Amaze device. I do apologize that you have this issue with your device and I will gladly assist you with this today. You have security credentials checked, a password set,and Fastboot off. You must either turn off security credentials or enable Fastboot. For the Fast Boot option to work you will need to re-enable the Storage Credentials(under security settings) and enter the password once more. Then, enable Fast-Boot and you should be able to safely power cycle."

Thank you. Finally this problem is solved.

Is anybody else still having this problem?  I do the reset of Security Credentials and Re-enable Fast Boot and it'll be ok for a few days.  Then all of a suddent I can't turn the phone off again and have to go through these same steps.

Yeah, it is definitely a software problem. I keep waiting for HTC to release an update but they never do. Best thing to do is go to HTC website and keep complaining until we get a permanent resolution to this issue.  And please post any response from them here to keep everyone else informed.  No reason any of us should have to fight this alone, we only have power in numbers.

I did have this same issue,i already did the factory reset when i had this issue first time. But it is just ok for few days, then i still can't turn the phone off.And few of my contacts in my SIM card would disappear,i don't know what happend,i did email to HTC,and got the response that they ask me to do the reset. Now the problem is reset didn;t solve our issue.

This fixed it for me.  Confused as to why, but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

OTH as soon as Cyanogenmod 9 is out for HTC Amaze, I'm going to ditch HTC's stupid UI anyhow.
