Anybody having this problem? I go to MyTouch setting, connect to PC, select "Disk Drive" as default USB connection type, and plug it into my computer's USB port. The phone comes up as a removable disk (G:), but when I click on it, it says "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (G:)". I've tried rebooting the phone, deleting some files (my SD card was full, which was why I am trying to connect it in the first place), but for whatever reason, I can't get my computer to read what's on the SD card while it is in the phone. I sent away for an external SD microSD card reader, and I am hoping this will work once it gets here, but I'm wondering if other people are having this problem and if anyone has gotten an answer on how to fix it. Thanks!
Do you have a different USB-to-MicroUSB cable you can try? I believe I've read about people having cables that would charge just fine, but wouldn't work right on the computer.
What OS is your computer?
This is sooo weird, but I too was having your issue...
From the previous forums they all suggested I:
1. Open the internet
2. Hit menu
3. Click MORE
4. Go to SETTINGS
5. CLEAR out all history, cookies, temp pages...EVERYTHING.
VOILA! it cleared it up. I was amazed that something thing like the internet settings would have an affect on the SD card.
Dear Amanda Rekonwith,
Thanks so much! I assumed you were talking about Microsoft Internet Explorer, and I was skeptical because I literally never use that, I use Firefox. But I opened it up, went to Tools, Internet Options, and deleted everything under the browsing history. When I plugged my phone in, the SD was there with all of its folders! Amazing. The only other thing I will say is that I chatted with a T-Mobile customer service agent about it who was absolutely clueless about what the problem was and told me that it was a problem with my computer manufacturer and I'd need to contact them. Although the problem was on the computer side, I was annoyed that he couldn't resolve the problem. T-Mobile used to have great customer service EVERY time I contacted them, and this was the first time I went away frustrated and without an answer. Not sure if it is due to the AT&T merger, the quality of the chat help in general, or just the specific person I was talking to. Anyways, rambling. Thank you AGAIN so much! So glad I did not lose six months of photos and videos!
Like I mentioned, I have no idea what the browser settings have to do with the SD card. Pretty weird, right?Anywho, I'm glad you're enjoying the phone!
They're not computer technicians. That's why they couldn't answer your question lol. I didn't have a problem. I connected the phone, the computer found the .msi file "HTC Driver" installed on the card by the phone, installed the driver needed for Disk Drive, and the modem drivers for USB Tethering.
I am a technical support agent and even I have no explanation for why clearing the internet explorer cache would have any effect on installing the mass storage mode drivers. But, the job is all about trying various things until something changes and then following up on that until resolution.
I was having the same trouble and tried what amanda suggested. It worked like magic. I was about to return this phone. Thank you amanda for posting the solution. Now I am happy with my new phone!! :-)
it's crazy, but it works!
I may have some good news for everybody on this thread. I got my SD card slot working. I let my nephew look at it and he discovered that one of the hinges of the flip cover was loose. The hinge closest to the camera has a contact that signals the phone that the cover is opened or closed. This would account for a lot of problems including the SD becoming unmounted often. When he put the SD card back in, he made sure that the hinge was in its slot properly and that the cover was fully flat and flush with the SD card. It now works perfectly. We have both removed and replaced the multiple SD cards that wouldn't work before and they all work perfectly every time. We could not see that anything was broken on the SD tray and being that a lot of people are having the same problem, we suspect that it just a design flaw, and not broken. I hope this helps and works for everybody. It is a great phone when it works.
I am having the same problem. I cleared browser history, cookies, cache. But it didn't work. I can see 'removable disk' in 'my computer', but when i open it, it says 'please insert a disk into removable disk'.
I have different browsers on computer. Do I have to clear everything from all browsers? I even cleared everything from phone browser. Could you please tell me the procedure??
I tried all of the suggestions, I even took out the sd card and reinserted it. I don't even get the choice to choose how I want to connect to the pc on my cell........I used to be able to choose, but now I can't......my pc sees it but asks for me to insert card into the drive??????
