As asked above, is there a media dock available now and, if not, is one expected anytime soon? I have checked the Motorola website and I do not see one listed for this phone.
There still is no media dock available for the DEFY, only a windshield mount.
The windshield mount could also mount to a desk. What are you looking to do with the docking station?
Thanks for the replies. My oldest son might have liked a media dock for playing music from his Defy.
On T-Mobile.com there are a few portable speaker docks that work with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack that you can purchase -- like this one: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/AddOns/Accessories/AccessoryDetailPopUp.aspx?accessory=afe1ae48-937d-419b-96a7-5877778c5b49&inCart=True&catCode=36
@tarabuck the windsheild mount activates a different dock mode than a media dock would. The experience wouldn't be the same.
@servbotx - You are absolutely right, I wasn't sure what kind of experience jim1348 was looking for. The car mount would not be the best option for playing music from his Defy at home. Thanks for the feedback!
The media and car dock software are triggered by putting a magnet on the back of the phone directly behind the "Settings" icon on the front of the phone. Depending on the polarity, either the car dock or media dock will start up. By flipping the magnet over, you can make software you would like pop up. I made my own media dock for about $8.00 by using a few inexpensive items.
Needed: Cheap metal business card holder (available at http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/346429/Office-Depot-Brand-Metro-Mesh-Business/)
A mini USB cable (If you want to be able to use it as a charging stand)
Small powerfull magnet available at hardware stores
First, turn on your phone and lay it in the card holder sideways, with "Motorola" to the left. Take the magnet and stick it inside the card holder, right up against the phone at the bottom right side (opposite the "Settings" icon). It will cling to the card holder if you purchased the metal one. Within a few seconds, either the car dock or media dock software will pop up. Flipping the magnet over will make the software change from one to the other.
Second, mark on the card holder where the USB port is on the phone and cut a small hole through so the USB connector will fit through. Epoxy the cable to the card holder so it stays secure.(I had to mount the card holder to two small pieces of wood to lift it enough to get the connector in.) Let the epoxy dry then when you slide your phone in, the media dock pops up and you can have a powered media dock. The dock allows you to add shortcuts and widgets to the screen so you can fire up wi-fi or whatever you want while in that mode. I have the T-Mobile TV app and use the media dock like a tiny TV when I travel, but anything you want can be added.
Hope this helps.
You can access both the Desk dock Mode and the Car Dock mode with short cuts if you don't want to use a magnet. The Car Dock short cut should be on your Defy already. But to get to the desk dock you need a program like "BetterCut" to create the shortcut.
