Apparantly it does not support wi-fi calling now, so no wi-fi hotspot as well?
Hey mautique...understand why this question came up based on Wi-Fi calling, but want to assure you the device is able to perform as a Wi-Fi HotSpot at the time of launch.
yes it does .. but unfortunately it will cost you 15 dollars now... the amaze and galaxy s 2 phones they are blocked until you get the plan
TJ, I am just curious why T-mobile did not list wi-fi sharing as an available feature for the Amaze. Am I right in equating wi-fi hotspot to wi-fi sharing?
Did you mean $15 on top on any plan? How about if I subscribe to one of the "unlimited" plan?
15 on top of ANY plan
Tethering and Wi-Fi sharing are actually features of Android's Gingerbread OS. I agree that it should be included in the tech specs so I will pass that along. Also, bigmerf is correct in there is an additional 14.99 charge for using the Wi-Fi sharing feature.
TJ, thanks for the clarification! On the other hand, isn't it true that there is no additional $14.99 for the sharing feature on HTC Sensation? If indeed it is true, is it because the wi-fi hotspot app is a standand feature ( and pre-installed) on the Sensation?
Here is some additional information regarding Tethering, and Wi-Fi Sharing on the Amaze 4G: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2698
T-Mobile may not immediately block you from Wi-Fi sharing until it is verified that you are using your device as a modem...and at that time you may be blocked and then required to purchase a feature to continue using it. That said, there may be a period of time where you are able to tether without having the feature added on the account. Unfortunately I cannot speak to your specific situation, but I hope this helps with your question.
Thanks very much tj. You have answered my question
it is not blocked on any other phone except for the amaze and galaxys2. seems like tmo will be blocking it going forwad, especially on its adavanced 42mbps capable phones (you will never see that.lol!) . its a shame ,tmo is slowly but surely becoming its competitors. no longer that much a value. with the hospot and wifi calling notworking on these phones. what makes them special? blowing your data at a faster rate? shame the direction tmo is headed.. maybe att is already calling the shots
i brought mines back... hoping for something special to be announced on the 19th from google..nexus
People have said it here already, but I'm just another case to confirm. You can activate and set up the mobile hotspot just fine. Devices can connect to the phone, but once you launch the browser on a connected device, it prompts you to upgrade to the $15/mo. tethering plan. womp womp.
Wonder if a future root + rom will get around this! haha.
This is false advertising. I bought the phone yesterday and no one at T-Mobile told me there was a cost for tethering or HotSpot. I mentioned that I had PDANet on my MyTouch! They didn't even offer the plan or I would have known to purchase another phone.
