If all of this is true, this is pretty ridiculous. How long have we waited for this phone to finally get here and then not to have it fully functioning like every other Android phone on TMobile except the Nexus S POS that I have right now that doesn't have Wi-Fi calling. Ya, utterly ridiculous.

So no its not just for that phone, but for our future phones. Below is the link to the new ims if you really wanna read into it. Just trying to help out my customers while off the clock.. this article is from 2008 and probably written before the G1 (and android) was released. The company mentioned (Kineto) is the same company who developed the wifi calling app which TMO has released on all recent Android phones for the past year. I'm not sure why it's not included with the GSII at launch and maybe you can load it from the market or some other location at a later time. it will not take an Android OS OTA patch to get this. maybe there is something different about the GSII (chipset/TouchWiz??) which does not let the Wifi calling app work and the app needs to be updated.
again, don't buy a phone hoping for a future release. it may come, but it probably wont be in the timeframe you were expecting. There are many other phones which have wifi calling - Sensation/G2x/MyTouch/etc
Hi, I am switching little bit the angle of subject but still under WiFi Calling.
Thanks again - iMig
1. Wifi Calling will count as minutes against your plan - unless you have the unlimited wifi calling plan (or unlimited minutes). http://www.tmonews.com/2011/05/t-mobile-unlimited-wi-fi-calling-feature-going-live-tomorrow/
2. see this article: http://www.tmonews.com/2011/05/t-mobile-clarifies-international-wifi-calling-charges/
3. Wifi data does not count against your data plan since you are not connected TMO's network.
The SGS2 has wifi calling feature for sure. Here is the proof of my statement: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2640
Take a look at the CONNECTIVITY section. I will get the phone on Oct. 12.

That is not "proof". That is a posting by Chris. The "official" specifications on the T-mobile page shows that Galaxy 2 does NOT have Wi-Fi calling. A t-mobile rep posted on tmobile news web site that a software update will enable UMA, but there is no time line and as of now Wi-Fi calling is not included. That is the "proof" not a blog posting.
That was the link the T-Mobile Tech support sent me today. But I have more information about this issue which is not confirmed yet. SGS2 has another feature called "IMS" (IP Multimedia Subsystem) that will come later this year and it is mostly like "UMA" aka Wifi calling but more improved. This feature is available thru software upgrade and included updated SIM card. I hope this updated information is correct and helps you guys.
Thanks naga1982. The million dollar question is when will T-mobile/Samsung upgrade their software to allow IMS/UMA/Wi-Fi calling for T-mobile owners of SGS2. I plan to buy a SGS2 only after this feature is enabled.
Is it possible to have a ETA of availability of the upgrade? The missing feature is part of key that allow to enhance the usage of SGSII. Also, it is not possible that there is no ETA defined upfront considering such launch of device almost in similar timeline to iPhone 4GS.
That is exactly the reason I have no intention of rushing in to get a SGS2, as much as I hate my current UMA enabled BB Bold. If I had to buy a non UMA enabled phone then it will be an iPhone 4S. However I do hope to buy a Samsung because of the screen size, weight and T-mobile's policy of tolerance for tethering.
Hopefully it works just like the Amaze 4g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295990

The website also claimed that the G2x had AT&T's UMTS bands, when in reality it did not. So there's clearly precedent that incorrect information can sometimes make its way onto the website.
just bought the samsung galaxy s2 and got a new sim card , no wifi calling in setting !;(
