    oh man

I've run into exact same Gallery picture trouble, though it looks like this for me:

    a) take a few shots with camera

    b) new pics are displayed in Gallery properly

    c) reboot the phone

    d) new pics are NOT displaying anymore, let me emphasize new only (old ones are there)

    e) connect phone via USB to a PC and I can see all the pics sitting in there

    Gingerbread 2.3.4 bugged?

I noticed the problem for the first time just today after I wanted to browse some pics in Gallery after rebooting the phone... wondering what is causing it ... a Photobucket update perhaps? Idk, just guessing, to me it looks like some bug in system that gets triggered after some recent app updates. I've been running GB 2.3.4 for over a month and noticed the problem just today and I use camera and photobucket almost daily...

BTW, why Google Sky Map package is again signed incorrectly? It keeps popping up and bugging me in the Android Market, annoying...

so does anybody have a solid solution to disappearing pics (from Gallery) problem?

    EDIT:

upon disconnecting the USB storage mode (and cable from PC), I noticed the Gallery rescanned all the pics on SD card on its own and now everything shows up correctly.

It even holds up through a reboot.

It seems that simply unmounting and re-mounting the SD card (e.g. by plugging the phone to PC and enabling USB Storage and then disabling and disconnecting) forces picture rediscovery in the Gallery and it fixes it... the question is for how long...

  • 16. Re: g2 pictures deleting/reappearing after restart

I have had this issue as well since the gingerbread 2.3.4 update as well and have since tried numerous ways such as reformatting the SD card and using SDrescan (didn't try a phone reset).  The best thing we can do right now is to do what feniks said...and that is to plug your phone into the computer and turn on USB storage mode.  I've done this numerous times and it has kept all my photos in my phone for a while now.

They really should get this fixed...its beyond annoying.

  • 17. Re: g2 pictures deleting/reappearing after restart

quick update. new pics again disappeared from 2.3.4 Gallery after merely 40 hours. I haven't rebooted my phone since a few days and pics were there last night and they are gone this morning... so annoying...

also it seems that another way to make Gallery re-scan pics, e.g. when you have no USB cable handy, is to go to MENU - Storage Settings - Unmount SD card, wait 10 secs until it completes, then Mount SD card. The Gallery will re-scan pics and show all of them correctly afer this.

Thanks. Unmount, mount. Sounds like it's breeding something. (Loved the other Gingerbread changes, but not this!)

    prh, you're funny.

It's seems unmounting the SD, using SDrescan, and connecting the USB all rememdy the issue, i.e. missing files return when the phone is forced to rescan the SD content files.

A new development on my end, when I assign ringtones saved on the SD card to contacts on my phone, the phone does not actually ring when those contacts call (but it still vibrates). The only way to get the ring to sound out is to run the SDrescan app or perform one of the other solutions list above.

Seriously, why hasn't this problem been escalated yet?

T-mobile moderators, are you out there?

  • 20. Re: g2 pictures deleting/reappearing after restart

I have been having the same issues.. I've gone through 2 new phones.. 2 hard resets.. 2 SD cards.. a battery and I've taken days to add apps to my phone.. I have done everything.. Now my music wont save play list.. Which is frustrating.. and i cant add new songs to my phone.. This is getting old.. I have been dealing with this since AUG.. and they dont seem to know whats going on.. Which is strange.. You'd think they'd read these forms and figure out that there is a problem.. I just want a phone that works! PERIOD.

OK so I know a fix for the g2 picture mistery....   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*****************************

I too noticed that after the update I have been having a picture missing issue, so has my gf phone as well hers is a g2.

I also have had an issue with every time I do a search hitting the search key then start typing the letter, I innitially hit is highlighted then as I proceed to write well it deletes the first letter I write!

now to the fix for the g2 picture issue

download astro its free and it is a file manager, pretty basic program but can hurt you so please respect it as you may be able to change importent files and such...

// well download it from apps and then once you do this ....

// open it thenthen on the top of the screen you have home, up, ,multi, edit, search

//  under this you should see files

    // select sdcard

    //select DCIM

//then you should come to .thumbnails , 100 andro, camera.

//select these and veiw to see if you can see you missing pics

Mike, your solution is similar to one others have already tried -- Like Astro, ES File Explorer allows the user to view files saved to the DCIM folder. However, this does not restore missing files photos to the gallery.

  • 23. Re: g2 pictures deleting/reappearing after restart

yes but I also moved all my pics from thumbnail to camera and then looked in my galery veiw and found them all there... now all i have to do is take out the duplicates.

  • 24. Re: g2 pictures deleting/reappearing after restart

using astro you can hit menu then select edit then select all, then at the top of the program select copy or even move and move them to camera file.   just incase you lose your pics create another file called PIX or something and put a copy there also for a back up... after all pictures are moved delete the thumnail file or just the pictures in the file by selecting all then delete...  for some reason you may have to do this for a while, I had 900 pics and vids and some where repeats for some reason, though I tend to take 3 or more photos at a time; probably photography class tought me that.

  • 25. Re: g2 pictures deleting/reappearing after restart

My pictures all sit under sdcard/DCIM/Camera.

I have no .thumbnails subfolder under DCIM. nevertheless I still have the problem with newer pictures going missing eventually until I unmount & Mount the sdcard (forcing Gallery pics re-scan).

The thing is we shouldn't have to deal with this.. I just got back from the tmobile store because the woman I spoke to at customer support said my phone had a bug.. I told her to look in the history and see if there were any other complaints.. and there isn't! So I m gettin my 3rd replacement phone in 2 months.. they're not listening.. the guy at the store said it wasn't my memory card and told me to do everything I've don't already..so now I'm on to my 3rd phone.. he said after this I'll get a replacement.. hopefully the replacement doesn't suck! Because I know the same thing will happen!

  • 27. Re: g2 pictures deleting/reappearing after restart

new phone will NOT solve anything unless it comes with a different (later than current OTA) android OS version. that's the problem IMHO.

However when you do get a new/refurb phone, don't forget to post all kernel, system and such version, release number strings, I'm curious, perhaps they already have something newer...

I have no idea what you're talkin about with the numbers and such.. the last 2 phones I got automatically did the OTA update with out me having to do anything..I know its not going to work.. but no one at tmobile is listening to me..

MENU -> SETTINGS -> ABOUT PHONE, scroll down to bottom and you will see what I mean.
