HTC Sensation 4g random reboot

Just got my HTC Sensation 4g on 7/12 and i love the phone........except one minor problem!

On the first day, while charging on my desk it just randomly rebooted itself.  When it came back on it ask me to send a report to HTC which i did.

On the second day, the exact same thing happened.  I called T-Mobile that evening and after going through FIVE support person the last lady just said "Oh, you sent a report to HTC??  They should be aware of it, most likely they are doing some update.  Is there anything i can help you with?"  i just told her ok, well i hope they fix the problem soon....SMH.

I really hope T-Mobile or HTC fix this problem soon, i've searched online on T-Mobile & HTC discussion threads and it seems like i'm not the only one with this issue.  I LOVE the phone and hope this issue is resolved soon via OTA updates or whatever means.

Mine actually did the same thing and I had to do a exchange .. and now it works properly.. however for the issue that your having the update in mid august or early sept. will resolve this.

I was having the same problem, got a new battery and it hasn't done it since.

  • 3. Re: HTC Sensation 4g random reboot

Oddly, mine has done it once - while charging a new spare battery.  Has not done it before or since.

I have had the phone for 1 week.  It has reset 4 times.  Twice while running Mapmyride app.  I am not very happy.

Another day and another reboot, this is starting to become a routine and it's NOT stopping!!!  BTW, the battery on this phone is TERRIBLE!!!  I can't even go through a full day without the phone dying!

I've had mine for over a 2 weeks and the rebooting has become an annoyance as well.  This is a great device, but many apps on the market are not compatible witht he dual core technology and cause forcecloses and I feel that HTC rushed to release Sense 3.0 which is loaded with a lot of bloatware.

This happens with virtually every device -- whether it's a new technology like Dual Core, a new interface like Sense 3.0, a new version of the Operating System, or whathaveyou.  One example of this was the MyTouch 1.2.  It was "basically" the original MyTouch with a 3.5mm jack in it.  But there were a lot more intrinsic details different that caused apps to not work for a while.

Unfortunately the "best" thing to do is determine what apps are causing it and not use them.  If it's a "mission critical" app, you can always contact the developer and ask what's going on with an update to make it compatible.

Usually two to three months after a device has been released, most of the app bugs are resolved due to these new technologies.

I have had the phone for almost 2 weeks now . After getting the super phone I installed multiple apps Angry Birds , ForEx trade , Yahoo Mail , google maps update and all the updates  they sent . Within the first week the phone kept rebooting seems to have been everyday sometimes twice a day . I am in within the 14 days so I am carring it back for another unit or the Galaxy S . They say its a $55 restocking fee if I change the unit . But if the model doesn't work properly why would I use it .

Forsmplyunprdctble : I do understand that the HTC Sensation is a new phone . However it should have been tested fully before selling it . Even if it has a bug it should NOT  take more than 1 month to resolve it .

Really?  For devices as complex as these and the testing that is going on, you're expecting things to be turned around in a MONTH?  I REALLY want to know what kind of business you're in because it obviously isn't software.

Now, before you try to go on a tirade, if it's ONE bug, yes, a month is overkill.  But, the Sensation doesn't have just one bug, it seems.  People are having a handful of issues -- look around -- there's a lot of moving parts.  My guess is HTC is working on these handful of issues, testing things out, and a patch will be available to us when it's ready.  This definitely takes longer than a month.

As for testing fully.  I'm sure it had been tested fully to the best of their abilities.  The proof of this is not 100% of the Sensations having problems.  They cannot mimic every possible app installation configuration out there (It's complicated enough with the pre-installed T-Mobile **** we got).  They can't mimic everyone's static electricity buildup.  But, in my opinion, I think they did a halfway decent job.

So i got a system update last week (Thursday, 8/18/11), my phone now is on the following software:

    Android version: 2.3.4

    HTC Sense version: 3.0

    Software number: 1.45.531.1

When i first noticed the prompt for the software update, my first thought was that they found the solution for the reboot. Boy was i wrong, after the "software update" THREE reboot has already occured!!  I did noticed my app icons are a tad bit better looking as well as the animation screen as i scroll through the page but where the hell is the fix for the real problem?!?!  Is anyone still having issues with the reboot after the software update?  Do i have a defective unit??  This is becoming an on going issue and if it isn't fix soon i will be looking at other options!

YES YES YES YES MRTIEP !!!!!! The phone is still rebooting after the update last week . Mine has rebooted approximately 7-10 times since then . The reboot  usually occurs when I try to unlock it or when it's in my pocket and I take it out to unlock and  use it . I have also notice that the memory usage is highhhhhh!!!!!!

ERRRR This phone would be sooo good with out the rebooting . Now I think the phone SUCKS!!!!!

Sorry I haven't put any updates since July 22 when I posted here last . I have just been so fed up with this sensation.

So initially I thought of just returning the phone because I was within the 2 weeks .

What I did instead is get a replacement unit (BRAND NEW!!!!!!) . Same thing reboot reboot reboot . SO NO NO NO it's not a defective unit . They are all defective in my point of view .

I am now out of the 2 weeks grace period of returning the phone . So here is my plan .

    1) Root the phone = jail breaking\hacking \unlocking or whatever  to try and lower the memory usage and remove some of the tmobile and htc background stuff that is  probably causing the reboot . But yet they cant figure it out

    2)  There is another work around get your handset replaced 3 times and you can get another  type\brand of phone . I didn't know this  until I got the first one replace so I have 2 more to go .

Can we get some language here?

When y'all say "rebooting", do you mean the white HTC screen comes up then home appears, or do you mean the white HTC screen comes up, then the T-Mobile "stick together" screen then home appears?

It's almost sounding like you're referencing the former (just the HTC screen then home).  That happens when Home (Sense) gets pushed out of memory due to apps with high memory usage (some video players, games, etc).  It's "works as designed" to allow you to have memory available when you need it for memory intensive apps.

  • 14. Re: HTC Sensation 4g random reboot

No, i'm aware of the 2 different types of rebooting.  It's the FULL reboot where it restarts the phone as if i powered it off and on.  I see the T-Mobile "stick together" screen and it takes quite awhile for it to boot up the phone completely for use.
