Just Received OTA last night...should I?

I just received the OTA last night, saying the following:

      "Install Software Update

      Congratulations!

Tmobile has sent you a new software update for your device.

Update will take approximately 10 minutes. You will not be able to use the phone during this time, including 911 emergency calls.

      To begin install, select Update"

I am assming this is 2.3 Gingerbread. What are your thoughts? Anyone else receive an OTA within the last 2 days and install? Any issues? Anything I should be concerned with?

      Thanks in advance.

Read previous posts. A lot of threads have been made on this topic.

          • 2. Re: Just Received OTA last night...should I?

Uh huh...I did. People complain about cameras sucking, about gps issues (sometimes) and some people say their phone still freezes and reboots. I get it...

My phone, I purchased the day G2X came out...have never had a single issue. No freezes, no reboots, nothing. Sure it has lagged a little because I have it synced to 4 email address among other things...but clearing out the trash folders and deleted folders, than running a history cleaner (cache) brings it right back up to speed.

Im wondering, whether it's worth updating to 2.3? Is 2.3 more fluid, does it function better? Im asking this specifically to those who have had no issues with their original G2X with 2.2 Android.

            Thanks.

              1) wierd we were told the ota was completed days ago...........

              2) i strongly suggest if you are having no problems with your phone dont upgrade. the gb will downgraded your camera capabilities.  i have seen people that didnt have reboots on froyo get them with gb.

GB adds some security fixes and some stuff under the hood. but other than a different launcher and a glow effect when scrolling thee is nothing you will actually see.  the kernel in the update is a froyo kernel so its not adding anything dual core wise or else.

the update does add a new baseband and some state better gps while others say they see no difference . i am on that front i have seen no difference with the baseband.

if you do it plese post a screen or list what is said in about phone.  maybe this is a newer update if its restarted.

The phone does function better I won't lie and say it doesn't.  The HUGE downfall is the loss of the camera application. If you don't use your camera and don't really care about that they by all mean go a head.  If you love that camera at all then I would wait.

Like you I had no issues with my phone other than the battery life prior to the update.  I now wish I had never did it b/c I absolutely loved the camera. Also there are a few apps that I can no longer access in the market after the update but that may be because they don't function at GB 2.3.

IMO I would wait to see if there is another update especially if you are currently happy with your phone and have no issues with it.  Once you do it you cannot go back.

Thank you Geneva79 and Eagle 1967. Your responses were the type of responses I expected...not what fsuphan posted.

I don't use the camera much, the typical take a pic when you see something interesting type of thing. I would not rank the camera as anything "important" to me.

It is interesting, Eagle 1967, that the OTA was completed a few days ago...yet I received some sort of an update last night. Is there a way to find out what the update is before accepting to install it?

                      Thanks,

yeah trying to find someone that has gotten this want to be a guini pig

to see if the basband and or kernel aare different.

this thread said they got some new software yesterday trying to get that info there.

                        http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/4578?tstart=0

Lg had said the update was not completeded but suspended. so that may mnean nothing has changed other than something in the script to install the update or something.,

having the ota going again supports the suspension rather than the completion.

we really dont know whats going on there have been so many "misleading information"  notice i didnt say lies..

that its kinda like a suspense drama we wont know whats happening until we see it.

not like 6th sense though i knew bruce was dead the 1st 5 minutes

I still didn't receive the OTA so I decided to give the LG tool a try once again as its been reported to now work with DWP versions, if it did not I was going to the dark side this evening ( XDA and 2.3.5).  TO my surprise It told me your phone needs to be updated press the big red button to continue...... A bit apprehensious at first I slowly let my index finger creep over to the enter key.... and before I knew it... WAN, BAM, THANK YOU MAM. and It was over!  The rush I felt in my chest was almost as potent as the one I felt when I rode " KingDa Ka". In all (6 mins 14sec. later )  It has now tickled my fancy that Ive  "Danced with the devil in the pale moonlight" and lived to talk about it. I'll report back in a few days on how well my experience is going with this leap of faith, however I can already say, Im not impressed by this new camera, but the black task bar of 2.3.3 had me load the original Google Dark Ale wall paper to the background for a devilish effect!

So could it be that I received 2.3.4?? What are the chances?

                              Slim to none.
