I know you were eagerly anticipating a new software update today and I wanted to give you a status update. In order to ensure the best possible experience with your device, we have temporarily delayed the release of the update to perform a few tweaks. We’re working hard to ensure that we get the update to you as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience!
Update: The software update gets released today!
I'll let me uncle know .. he has an 8X...
i was THIS close to owning an HTC 8X after Microsoft invited me out to the Windows Phone 8 event in San Fran (it was on my birthday to boot how cool would that have been lol) ... but I couldn't secure the flight to see it unveiled .. everyone in the audience eventually received an 8X
I couldn't get the time off on short notice from my job to fly out there ..
Surely you jest? You guys need to perform a few tweaks? Seriously that's you can say a few tweaks? My patience is as thin as ice in a pond. I grow tired of the reboots and battery meter giving wrong readings when disconected from the wall. Day 36 and on my second HTC 8x and all there is wait some more?! Here I thought all future firmware updates were to be rolled out by Microsoft or HTC. Yet we are still seeing carriers hands in updates!
Edit at 17.01: What there is a flaw in the coding? Or is it something that a carrier does not want us to have? You want patience you would have to give more than a tweak for an answer. This standard lack detail answer would make any Civilian/Federal/Military Government or Corporate Public Relation firm proud.
I'll have to chime in and voice my displeasure with T-Mo's status on this. I know this was out over a week ago in Europe which includes the corporate headquarters.
I would venture to guess the tweaks amount to nothing more than added bloat? So long as I can remove them as what happens already.
Like the rest I too am impatiently waiting.
I'm disappointed because I was really hoping for the reboot and hot spot upsell fixes. But hopefully there was a significant T-Mobile specific issue that needed to be addressed.
I also have the One S and soon after it came out, T-Mobile pushed an OTA update that actually broke and removed features from the phone (encryption broken and the Beats audio configuration options removed). In the case of encryption, my device was encrypted and because of that update, I lost all of my data.
It's doubtful, but perhaps a lesson was learned and updates will get a bit more scrutiny for significant defects that they may introduce.
Well with roughly nine days in the European release. One would think that anything critical or semicritical would have popped up Europes release. To pull the North American release at the last hour with the statement, ". In order to ensure the best possible experience with your device, we have temporarily delayed the release of the update to perform a few tweaks." Right if that's the case then why are European Telecommunication providers not going ooooppsss!!!
Seriously nine plus days and this? I am feed up with reboot issue and the battery meter. Again I thought this was a bloody MS/Windows Phone Division OTA versus T-mobile OTA. Why the hell do telecomms stick their fingers in the pudding?
I too chose to be optimistic about this and lean towards T-Mo actually making improvements although being human I am suspicious as well about what their doing. Pulling it at the 11th hour causes that suspicion to surface.
As I bought this phone I only want the apps on it that are actually meaningful to me and what I do with it. I don't want hooks to spend more money each month nor bloat that will slow me down (not that I need all the speed but when I do I want it).
Just going to guess here, but could the delay be related to the sudden release of an update to Beats Audio and Connection Setup? Without proper change logs we'll never know for certain, but the timing seems to correlate strongly. Incompatibility/stability issue with those perhaps?
As I said I'm being positive towards this one and your point bugler certainly provides some influence to that.
Now to wait some more.......
Good news everyone!
We're releasing the update today!
I can definitely understand some of the sentiment in some of the above posts, you deserve to have a properly working device. This is why we wanted to ensure we did everything we could for a smooth update. Thank you again for your patience.
Thaks Ian, great news. Any idea when we'll be able to access the update?
Updating right now, thanks!
So I'm at my desktop reading your email and what does my phone decide to do? Yup, reboot!
Its installing now!
Wait, that was funky. Got to 98% and then jumped back to 95% Okay, preparing to install is now 100%
UPDATE: Folks, after it downloads and "Preparing to Install" it will sit for quite a while then it will ask you to install now. Just so you know there is that delay or what seems to be.
Hi tmo_ian .... any words on same for Nokia Lumia 810?
I'm happy to also add that there is no added bloat or anything like. In fact those apps that I removed when I first got the phone were not added back in.
Fairly painless but it does take a few minutes to perform.
Thanks (so far) T-Mo & MS.
Also, what was that link we're supposed to go to in order to see what's new in this update? I went right by it.
