Tmobile has had a cap on their data for the last couple
of years. It's either 200MB,2GB,5GB or 10GB. So you must have
one of those plans. The plans have unlimited data but you only get
4G data for the amount listed on your data plan.
Tmobile did introduced a new unlimited data plan with no throttling
on Sept.5 of this year.
what I dont understand is when looking at my data plan: it shows me as being under this plan
T-Mobile Android Unlimited Web. for $30
T-Mobile Unlimited - Premium Web for $35
yes i see the other plans of 10gbs of highspeed and 5gigs of highspeed etc etc.
did they do away with the "unlimited" and just throw me into the 5gb category because it cost the closest to the plan I was under?
Yea and the only way to find out if the rep didn't tell you is
to read the fine print of your contract.
10. * Data Plans and Other Features. You will be charged for data usage on a pay per use basis unless you are required to maintain a data plan (“Data Plan”) as part of your Service, or as otherwise provided by your Rate Plan or prepaid data pass. Permissible and Prohibited Uses: Your Data Plan is intended for Web browsing, messaging, and similar activities on your Device and not on any other equipment. Unless explicitly permitted by your Data Plan, other uses, including for example, using your Device as a modem or tethering your Device to a personal computer or other hardware, are not permitted. Other examples of prohibited uses can be found in Section 17. Protective Measures: To provide a good experience for the majority of our customers and minimize capacity issues and degradation in network performance, we may take measures including temporarily reducing data throughput for a subset of customers who use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth. If your total usage exceeds 5GB (amount is subject to change without notice; please check T-Mobile’s T&Cs on www.T-Mobile.com for updates) during a billing cycle, we may reduce your data speed for the remainder of that billing cycle. If you use your Data Plan in a manner that could interfere with other customers’ service, affect our ability to allocate network capacity among customers, or degrade service quality for other customers, we may suspend, terminate, or restrict your data session, or switch you to a more appropriate Data Plan.
i understand the rules of fine print its just kinda junky because they dont have a lot of info on the old "unlimited" plan.
and i knew i was grandfathered in on the "unlimited" because i got in a little before they stopped offering it, and to my knowledge there were not any caps on it at the time i signed up. I assumed having gotten in on unlimited id still be under unlimited not thrown into another plan.
i've been throttled once and it's even slower than 2G. the unlimited plans grandfathered are unlimited plans "up to 5GB". that's how they all were .. i found that out after being throttled that unlimited simply meant you wouldn't be charged any overage charges.
now though TMO has an unlimited plan that's actually throttle free even beyond the grandfathered 5GB, 10GB bases .. so you might want to look into their new Unlimited Nationwide 4G plan.
you better take advantage of the new unlimited data plan that gramps28 and deacon mentioned. no caps for that, no speed reduction.
based on the services you have, you would even pay less 5usd since the plan is only 30 bucks. yay!
I did a speed test of it and it was:
of 3+ yrs of having this plan I've never gone over 5gigs. but to be honest i was seeing how much data i could use (why not if i'm paying for it) so i kept wifi off pretty much the whole month. and watched all youtube videos through phone instead of on my pc
and there does not seem to be any data plans that are unlimited highspeed plans all that i see are capped to specific amounts of highspeed
10gb highspeed for 65
5gb highspeed for 35
2gb highspeed for 20
Second EDIT: i see the complete unlimited now. i just renewed my plan about a month ago so i dont think i'm available to get it...at least not now.
yea, you can change it..like now! data plan is just an extra service..it does not extend your contract.
you can even change using your TMo my account
&& just check on the options/links provided.
