Are G2 owners ever going to get Gingerbread like promised oh so many months ago? I hear rumblings every couple of months but no official word.
Nooooooooooooooo! Dang! I was so hoping to avoid these threads! Oh well, at least you are the first to post this, and there aren't any others.
To answer your question, as far as we know, and from the evidence we have seen, it does look like the G2 will get Gingerbread. If you are too impatient (which I know I was) you can always root, or you can flash the leaked rom without rooting. Totally your call.
Thanks! Maybe someone from T-mobile will chime in on the situation. I know I can root but I don't wanna mess with that if I can avoid it. Just anxious. Thanks for placating me.
As we saw on the last forum, T-Mobile doesn't really monitor these forums, so I highly doubt we will get an official word from them on here. I honestly think that your only and best advice to follow is just patience, as annoying as that happens to be.
Don't monitor them?! They at least LOOK at them, I got a device exchanged last night because the rep "read a post on the forums describing the issue" that I mentioned to him.
What I meant by that is that while some employees may be on here, they aren't officially monitoring them. When someone makes a complaint, or asks T-Mobile to do something, nothing happens. In response to them looking at the forums to help understand an issue, that totally makes sense.
Yes, T-mobile does not monitor the forums. The rep you talked with is just like me, where we come on here on our off time to check on things. If I'm not getting paid then I and every other rep are not here at T-mobile's request, just over indulgent employees.
We do monitor the comments posted here. We do track issues and problems posted here as we see them (we have other work responsibilities as well). We do not usually answer questions here as this is primarily a user to user Forum. Today is a little bit of an exception because we just launched this new site. We do have any information on updates to share at this time.
Sorry, I wasn't referring that no T-mobile employee sees this, just that they don't utilize the information from the resolutions found here to incorporate into the community information for reps. T-mobile does see these just not in the capacity that was being discussed. I do realize there are mods that oversee the discussions.
I'm sure you can understand why the Gingerbread update isn't here yet. They were awfully busy making sure our new forum was perfect.

Here's a good read on being able to understand who does the updates and why it sometimes takes awhile. Also, I have Gingerbread on my Mytouch 4G. If you want updates bad enough then there's ways to do it, just takes a little effort and time.
Also, I've had 2.2.1, 2.3.3. and now have 2.3.4 and I don't understand why some are clamoring for Gingerbread so bad. For a regular person they would never know they were on Gingerbread or Froyo. If you did notice the slight differences then you're probably the type of person that has already rooted their phone and has a custom ROM installed. Really the only thing I can see different from the two, in regular usage, is that I can now use the Netflix app on my phone. Going from 2.1 to 2.2 was a decent jump but 2.2 to 2.3 is mostly things that you'd have never noticed.
I wasn't really complaining about the update. I don't really care how long it takes. I was just letting off some steam cuz I'm upset about the loss of all the old posts.

I do understand the loss of the old threads. There was so much valuable information there, particularly from me ....JK.
I really feel sorry for all those people who had tons of posts. Now they're all stuck with the "New" tag when they've probably helped more people than all of the customer service reps together.
Yeah, I was over 1,600 posts and had put in a lot of time looking up information for people or getting the info from work. The time I spent did help out those people but now it's lost for anyone else that does a search on a topic that I answered. Oh well.
