Make sure you don't have a cover or case that covers the sensors of the phone that are located on the front top let section of the phone as that could cause your screen to never come back up as the sensors could think your face is still by the screen...If not then I suggest to factory reset your phone...This will put your phone back to it's original out the box state...menu/settings/privacy/factory data reset/reset phone. (This will delete phone contacts so please make sure you back up important information. This will not affect SD Card contents).
If the problem persist after that then call T-Mobile or Samsung for a replacement unit.
If your phone has root access and you've deleted any apps like "My Account" then that will be the cause of your screen never coming back up...
If wiping the device does not work, you can update your device using Samsung's Kies Mini application.
Before I rooted my Galaxy S 4G, I used this to update to KD1. It's easy and takes a few minutes.
This happens to me almost once a day, at random times. I can be doing nothing, on a call, sending a text, etc. The screen turns blank, the phone vibrates and gets really hot. The fastest way to fix is either hold the power button for like 10 seconds or take the battery out. This is my second device, and both have done this.
If you aren't adamant about clearing your cache, history, cookies, etc. on your phone about once a week, it's going to freeze and crash. Period. Your smart phone is like a computer - and this being said you have to do the same thing with your computer from time to time as it gets slow, right?
To do this:
- Open a web browser - preferably the globe icon, not google.
- press your menu icon
- touch MORE
- scroll to the bottom and select Settings
- scroll halfway down the menu and there's a heading called - PRIVACY SETTINGS-
- there is a list that has Clear Cache > Clear Cookies> Accept Cookies Clear All Cookie Data > Remember Form Data - Clear Form Data >
- You will want to select each of the "Clear" options. Once they are cleared, they grey out and mean it's complete.
- Then restart your phone so it starts fresh.
I tell people to do this multiple times a day - and it works for most of them. The only other reason why this wouldn't work and your phone is still a problem is because there may have been a free market download or virus on your phone. In that case, I'd do a master reset.
I hope this helps any that come across this site - thread
There is another way to get to clearing storage as well - if it's not web based junking up causing that black screen.
- In your home screen tap MENU
- Then Tap Location & Security
- Scroll to the bottom and you can select Clear Storage.
Samsung has really great customer service as well, and they are specialists on this device. Not saying that tech support within T-Mobile isn't great, just making a suggestion to go register your device on their website so you can get product speficic support. They also do live chats as well. Whichever way you go for support - either team would be happy to help!
