I cannot get connected to the T-mobile data network. I can make calls etc, but I cannot access the internet. I have seen other people do it with my phone which is an unlocked Motorola Flipout (MB511). I just got it so I don't know much about Android, and maybe my settings are messed up, but web pages don't even try to display. How do I get it to work?
First thing you need to do is check your data settings so
they match Tmobiles.
I don't know the menu to get to them but the setings are in this link.
Thanks, I am good with Windows, but Android, I am finding a little confusing. The link gave all of the info I needed once I found where to set my APN settings. I appreciate the help!
No problem. On the old forums I would of just directed you to the
knowledge base that had the settings.
Are you able to access T-Mobile's 3G Network with your Motorola Flipout? I am thinking of buying one as well and would like to know first.
My plan does not allow access to 3G, but I can access their 2G network just fine.
Just fyi, I got mine on Amazon new for $120. Awesome phone. Processor is occaisionally slow, but doesn't hinder anything. The most frustrating thing is Motorola will not update past Android 2.1. That means if you want to have lots of apps, you have to root your phone. I have about sixty total (including pre-installed) and my internal memory is full.
The only way to get 3G speeds is to have the 1700 and 2100 bands on the phone you are going
Thanks to you both for the information. The Flipout has the 900 and 2100 bands, so its seems that it cannot access T-Mobile's 3G network. I assume you are happy with it anyway. Are you having any other issues either with email or surfing the internet? Thanks.
Nope, no other issues with email or surfing. I logged into my accounts once and get notifications from each. I am usually in areas with wifi so I don't really need 3G.
One problem I have noticed, If you drive into rural areas, sometimes the tower will switch to a smaller company's wireless service used by T-mobile (ex. Viaero Wireless where I am). When you switch, the phone sometimes does not automatically switch to this tower. Meaning, you have to go into "Operator Selection" in Settings and select the local network manually, otherwise it will just show the "Emegency Calls Only" symbol untill you reach a recognized network.
I bought the Flipout and changed the APN settings based on the link above. Entered the settings several times, but still no data service. Any advice? Do you have an AT&T version of the Flipout? The one I purchased is a plain, unlocked version with no carrier affiliation. I suspect it was intended for T-Mobile in the UK.
I would go into the settings you put in and recheck them. If you make one error you will not be able to connect
to your data service. I had this problem with one phone I had , I put the settings in and couldn't send mms
and went back into the settings and noticed I put a , instead of a . .
Thank you again. My default MCC and MNC settings are 310 and 160, instead of 310 and 260 (as listed in T-Mobiles APN settings). In turns out that when I left the MNC setting at 160, instead of changing it to 260, data connection finally worked.
Sorry, didn't see your post till now. Yeah, mine is not affiliated with AT&T either, but it works with MNC 260. I really don't know the difference, but I'm glad you got it to work. Enjoy...
Did yours come with an American or Brittish wall plug?
It came with a Brittish wall plug and an adapter for the US. $129 for the phone, including a $30 T-Mobile pre-paid card and SIM card at eXpansys USA. It's working well now. Thanks for the help.
