Mirror Link: I'll post it shortly
Thanks to the folks over at xda!
Sweet, so download and put it on the root of the sd card, and then.....? Sorry, I'm still new and learning.
rename to updte.zip and place on sdcard
turn off phone
hold volume down and power until the skateboarding androids show up
press volume down to highlight "recovery"
press power button
at red exclamation press volume up and power to show blue text
press volume down to higlight "apply sdcard:update.zip"
Excellent, thank you very much! It's updating as I type, just asked me to reboot to complete installation!
Just a few more details from the xda thread, this won't work if you already have the leaked 2.3.3 version on your phone, so don't waste the time trying it. Also, after you get to the last step above and press power, you'll get to a screen with green arrows in a circle on it, don't touch it and just be patient and let it reboot itself. Mine took a decent amount of time.
I thought I can update, just installed the 2.3.3 a couple of days ago...
If you follow the directions posted above it will keep all your settings, just like the ota. I didn't have to do anything, not even rearranging any icons, zero, it kept my phone just as it was before I updated.
You can read throught the xda thread, there is a way but it's more than I can explain:
to clarify for some of us dummies:
rename to updte.zip and place on sdcard
(really means rename to "update.zip" and then connect phone to your pc, activate usb mass storage, find the phone on "my computer", drop the downloaded file into the drive representing the phone.)
(follow instructions, there is one more step; then the phone will reboot itself twice, it looks like).
thanks a ton, as I typed this, I got updated!!!
I tried, but failed. After verying the update file, the device showed following info:
"Verying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Web2GoShortcut.apk", "f94a8198068665467e8d6af1a5baaa13a4ce8d5c", "c20d8ce50c0a8cdc465ffef561a61d1db39e9458")
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
Is that due to my uninstallation of those T-mobile apps with Visionary+, root explorer before?
Anyone could help find out How i can get this update, thanks.
Dude I cant say but apparently its working for allot of people. I say just wait for the OTA. Im afraid to use the link right now. What if it bricks and all that.
After reading the xda thread, seems like the most common problem is when people are trying to rename the file. If you download the mediafile update and rename it "update.zip" you may have just actually renamed it "update.zip.zip" If you have a windows computer, it's usually set to hide the file extensions, so if your download just says "update" with no extension, and you write in the ".zip" extension, you've just given it 2 ".zips" and the update won't work. Easiest fix is to go into your settings and check the box labeled "show hidden extensions". In windows 7, it's in the control panel under "folder options".
I'll post back after I've used it a few days, but so far so good.
@jerry123, from your description of the error, I think you have hit the nail on the head. It looks like the update is trying to "patch" the Web2GoShortcut, and because you have removed it, the patch fails, so the install fails.
This is not surprising to me at all. This update apparently does not work for the people who have the 2.3.3 "leak", so it probably will only work for a bone-stock 2.2 phone. Not rooted, no apps removed, etc.
The SD card method of upgrade (available at the T-mobile stores this Saturday) will probably work, because according to the description, it will wipe your phone, so it doesn't matter what you had on it before.
That's the problem with an in-place upgrade. Maintaining your existing data and configuration means that the updater has to be very picky about what is on the system, or else it could "brick" your phone.
Will this update prevent the phone from being rooted? Correct me if I am wrong, but I do recall seeing the the first leaked update prevented the device from being rooted.
