At this point, you're probably better off forking over the ETF and moving on.

  • 16. Re: Tmobile LG G2X Don't buy!!!!

this is my first android device of any kind and i have not had ANY issues at all with this phone, stock, rooted, custom rom, everything just works

learn the phone, read up on it and what it is capable of.

its probably one of the best phones out there

Not many will agree with you.

  • 18. Re: Tmobile LG G2X Don't buy!!!!

then you arent looking in the same places i am. check out xda-developers.com in the G2x section. plenty of G2x fans and developers in there making this phone better and better every day.

There is no stable CM9 release yet.

Agreed that the phone had tremendous potential, but never lived up to it. It never even worked as advertised.

  • 20. Re: Tmobile LG G2X Don't buy!!!!

im using ICS 4.0.4 on my phone right now and with the right kernel, this thing is great. yeah i dont have a video camera and cant play netflix movies, but thats not the end of the world and that will come in time

not sure what you mean about it not working as advertised, but when mine was stock with gingerbread on it, it did everything i bought it for. sure it could use more ram and a bigger screen and better support from LG and TMO but for this thread to tell people to never buy it is crazy.

  • 21. Re: Tmobile LG G2X Don't buy!!!!

Well after my year long endurement of G2x problems, exchanges, etc... my G2x probems are finally over!  LG and T-Mobile have done nothing to help at all!  This last Friday I picked up a Samsung Galaxy II S.  What a great fix; pay $400 to replace a $400 phone that never worked!  I've been with this company since before they were T-Mobile, before Voicestream, before.... about 15 years!  Way to say thanks to a long term customer!  What BS.

I did get $85 for giving them my G2x paper weight though.

My hope is that you current LG G2X users will have a fix soon. To Tmobiles credit they placed me in an HTC Amaze. Great phone. The best feature is that it doesn't turn off ten times a day!!!

Sad that it did take so long but with the most recent update on mine (v21y) I don't have that problem anymore.

  • 24. Re: Tmobile LG G2X Don't buy!!!!

i guess im just one of the lucky ones. i have NEVER had an issue with my G2x, even when it was stock. i HIGHLY recommend this phone, but alas, TMO doesnt offer it anymore

Other than the first week or so that I owned this phone and was trying to figure it out, I have not had problems with it. I tend to turn it off and on every few days, so that may be why. Possibly, I have just been lucky. In any event, an OTA upgrade to the software has just been released, and the release notes claim the following. Time will tell

    • Improvements:
      • Random  reboot/power off fixed
      • Device stability improvements
      • Wi-Fi Calling  improvements
      • Boot up fixes

Unfortunately, you need to wait until tmo sends the update to your phone or wait until 5/14 to update from LG

    • Over the air (OTA) update: T-Mobile will push the update to your device sometime between 4/23 and 5/14. We cannot expedite how soon we send the OTA to individuals.
    • Manual update: If you do not want to wait for the OTA, you can update through LG's website beginning 5/14.

You and me both.  I never had the reboot problems until I decided to try out some of the custom ROMs (this is not to take away from the work any of the devs did).  After the update, I think that the phone is even better, and I intend to leave it stock (at least for now, until curiosity gets the best of me again ).

The sad thing is that T-Mobile doesn't currently offer a phone that I would replace my G2X with.  I don't like that curved mytouch look that they give all their phones, and don't understand the fad of designing such large phones.  So, it looks like my G2X and I will be together for a very long time.

When I got the phone first time, maibe becouse I was new to android and install everything on the phone I had issues with powering off and freezing but when I start to learn the phone better the maintenance I no longer have that.I see also a lot of complaints too.

Lets hope the update will work for all of us.

  • 28. Re: Tmobile LG G2X Don't buy!!!!

theartiszan How did you get the update already? The link posted bytmo_alicia_b says it's not available yet and I am eager, to say the least.

I am on my 3rd G2x as well. I did  not choose this phone. My HTC G2 was great untill the SD card clip broke. I was forced to take a G2x as a warranty replacement and all three have shut off randomly, often in the middle of calls. The 3rd one did it within hours of my owning it, with out a single app installed. Grats to those of you who have luckily stumbled upon stable units. It's not because you shut it off every few days, i shut mine off every night. It's not because you have done a bunch of uber-modding. I have rooted, flashed roms, done it all on one unit and on another, done nothing. It is a KNOWN issue with the phone, according to both LG and Tmo. You just got lucky.

Sorry you have so much difficulty. I suppose I have been lucky. My phone was OK both before & after the update. I would like to hear from folks who had problems and now have the update as to whether it fixed the random shut downs.
