The email client that comes with the HTC One S doesn't seem to display HTML email correctly, if at all. Most, if not all, of the email messages display unformatted. The same email messages display properly in K9 Mail. I'm unable to find any settings to this capability on in the device's email client.
Is this a known issue, and are there any workarounds?
Mine seems to load HTML emails without any issues. I just sent a test email to my Exchange address and it came through just fine.
The option to load HTML emails as HTML is enabled by default, but maybe you can try toggling it off and back on. To get to the option:
Hope this helps!
There's no issues known about this. Here's the settings in the default mail client that you can check...
My Microsoft Exchange email does display with HTML when these settings are right.
I can't personally help you with third party stuff like K9 and third party email (on their server side), but other people in the forum might have some pointers for that.
If you still have problems after this, after doing whatever other tips people give you, can you take a screen shot of an email that isn't displaying properly (Hold power, and immediately press Home key... then attach the screen shot in your forum post here) so I can show it to HTC.
It looked messed up to me, as well, until I figured out that many HTML e-mails only display correctly in the Gmail app when you turn the phone sideways (landscape mode) on the One S. Otherwise, I found that I had to do a ton of side to side scrolling to read an e-mail.
I didn't have this problem on the Radar 4G (which allows e-mail pinch zooming), so it's either an Android or HTC Sense issue (where e-mail pinch zoom isn't working in the Gmail app).
I can't find a Message format setting in Send, sync and receive. Also, I have the account set up using Other(POP3/IMAP), not Microsoft Exchange, and I'm using IMAP.
After some more investigation, it's possible that the app is displaying some HTML email messages correctly. It might be the case that K9 Mail does a better job of formatting and presenting email messages, "activating" URLs to be clickable, etc.
I tried that on mine.wont let me change the option from plain text though to html
Hmmm, ok, I don't an account set up in IMAP format to compare to, but I'd like to help if I can.
I had the same issue you describe. My Exchange account displayed correctly. However, my home account showed some HTML, but more often than not displayed HTML e-mails incorrectly. Here is what I did:
1 - Go into the settings for that account
2 - Select "Sync, Send & Receive"
3 - under "Receive settings" change "Mail size limit" to Maximum Size.
It won't affect e-mails you already downloaded, but anything from this point forward should display correctly. This worked for me, so I hope it works for you as well.
By setting the Mail size limit to Maximum Size it does appear that I'm seeing a richer presentation in many of the emails. I think part of my confusion stemmed from the fact that K9 Mail seems to do more formatting on its own, even if the email message isn't really an HTML email. For example, even in a non-HTML email, K9 Mail will recognize URLs and make them clickable.
I might stick with K9 just because it provides a host of additional features, but it's nice to know the default email client will work acceptably as well.
Some replies here suggested "setting Message format to HTML". Is that an option that's only avaialble in the Microsoft Exchange account settings, or am I missing something on my One S?
Thanks for the assistance and suggestions!
I've expanded my mail size limit to maximum size so I'll see what happens. Interesting, for my gmail account, I don't have the message format option as described above. Under my hotmail account, I have the message format option. I know if must be some easy solution since by default, my iPod always rendered those messages correctly as HTML.
yessireebob! that fixed it! Thanks
