I believe I installed the proper rivers and I have installed the LGMobile Support Tool. The Support Tool says that the phone is connected but Windows 7 wants to format it, with the SD card in or out. I already have data on my SD card and don;t want to lose it.
This is like shooting pool woth a rope!
you installed 'rivers' on your computer? that's your problem
you don't need to use the support tool, just have the drivers installed. connect the phone to the computer with the usb, in the notification bar it will say USB connected. select it. click the 'turn on USB storage' button. click ok button.
now the computer should see the phone as 2 drives - one for the phone's storage and one for the SD card storage. if the computer does not see it, try a different usb port.
as a last resort you can get a micro SD to USB dongle and connect the sd card directly into the computer.
Windows does see the phone as 2 drives. But, when I click on them in Explorer Windows informs me that I can't use the drive unless I format it. This occurs on both drives.
And what is 'rivers'?
Please see my post here on how to connect your phone without installing the drivers.

read you origninal post
do you have another computer (friends) to try it on?
take the sd card out of the phone an connect to the computer directly without the phone
Been there and done that 20 times, same thing. When ever I click on the drive windows wants to format it before I can use it.
PILLAR, I see now. I guess in some cases spell check do no good!
I guess no one has an answer here. Either does LG support. This phone cost more than it's worth.
Have you tried turning on USB Debugging? This may help. Also wait for the Update to 2.3.4 this may also help. If you don't want to wait for the update go here and use the Manual Update instructions>> http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2362
How might I run USB debugging?
Go into Settings and select Applications. Select Development at the Bottom. Put a Check in the USB debugging field.
I finally got it working. I believe the issue was my tweaking of Windows 7 services. I did a clean install of windows and didn't tweak the services this time. After installing the drivers and LGMobile Support Tool everything fell into place. I can drag pics from my hdd to the phone. Now I have another question.
Is there a way to back up my contacts on my phone to my hdd? When I view the stuff that is on the phone I really can't make out where the contacts are stored.
contacts are not stored on the phone. they may be still on your sim card, but usually synced from somewhere else like gmail or t-mobile mobile-life. Your best option is to have them synced with gmail contacts. Then they are accessable from any computer or you can export it as csv/vcard for backup. if they are synced with t-mobile, then there may be a way to export them from there (or export it to gmail). if they are on your sim card, then you can export them to gmail by going into the contacts - menu - import/export settings.
I logged into google with my gmail account and I see no selection for contacts.
Am I missing something?
