OR you can do some of the things described at http://galaxys2root.com/ and still work within the parameters of your existing data plan. Of course you run the risk of voiding your warranty, etc etc and I cannot POSSIBLY recommend that in good faith but for the sake of freedom of information I feel obligated to share it.
I'm going to end up paying the full $600 on either the galaxy2 or the Galaxy Nexus. So here's the question, I work in Miami and am near a 4g tower. I turn on the galaxy2 and try to download a 20 meg file. I then turn on the Galaxy Nexus and with the same SIM try to dowload the same file. According to the previous posts it should take more or less the same time? I thought the galaxy2 had one extra radio that allowed it to occassionally reach speeds of 37mps wile the Nexus would do 14mps. Assuming the tower I am near has that last radio band, then the galaxy should be quicker. Right? Has anybody seen this happen?
Tmob since Omnipoint 97!
For today only (less than 11.5 hours left), the Galaxy Nexus is $529.99 on Daily Steals!
I was able to register my Canadian version galaxy nexus on Samsung's US website as a new purchase (and no, I am not Canadian, I live in the US). I have no need to file a warranty claim and hope I never do but it would appear that that once I registered it with Samsung I've activated the warranty. So even an "imported from outside of the US phone" appears to be covered by the Samsung warranty. Not sure if would have allowed the same with a European version.

Bummer, was going to buy another one, made it to the site with 41 minutes to spare but they were already sold out.
Check it out people! Find the Galaxy Nexus for $399 in the Google Play Store.
I'm getting mine tomorrow. Kind worried though. The XDA nexus forum is full of new owners complaining about getting shafted by Google. Lots of phones with defective screens and speaker defects, and nightmare stories of getting the go around from the Google Play CS team. One guy went through 4 exchanges before he finally got a perfect phone. :/
