I haven't been to this forum in a very long time, but I'm surprised that no one posted this here.
LG has developed an update for this phone from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 using the LG support tool on your PC. I never really had any problems with my phone from the beginning (had it since launch), but I updated my phone last night and still haven't had any problems. It does appear that the battery is lasting longer, but I haven't run it for 24 hours yet. So, I think it's definitely worth trying to update your phone to the latest version.
I know it's inevitable that someone is going to bring it up, but this post is not about an upgrade for our phones to ICS. I just wanted to let everyone know about this update because it is possible that it helps to resolve some of the problems that others have been having with their phone.
Didn't see that.
What is it showing you for the software version number by chance?
The one that starts with LG
My software version is 2.3.7.
On my phone, the Android version is now 2.3.4, the baseband now has a date of March 11, 2012, the kernel version is 22.214.171.124 (not sure if this changed, I don't remember what it was), the build number is GRJ22, and software version is LG-P999-V21y. I'm positive that all of that information has changed, with the exception of the kernel.
Cyanogen mod for the win right.
That is the biggest benefit for root is to always be ahead if the version curve.
My software is 2.3.3.How you have 2.3.7?
I had a 2.3.7 custom ROM on my phone for about 4 weeks. About 2 weeks in, I started getting all kinds of reboots and other funky things happening to my phone that I didn't have happening before. So, I had gone to a custom 2.3.3 ROM, which was working ok, but I was still getting reboots, except more frequently. I was just about to restore back to stock settings when I saw someone mention the update. So, I'm going to try this out for a while to see how it goes.
Sorry guys. Looks like LG pulled the update sometime this morning. The update tool is now showing that the latest version availabe for this phone is the v21e one. Not sure if it'll be available at another time, but I'd just keep checking.
Glad I was surfing through XDA last night. I haven't had any problems so far, and the battery life is greatly improved!
how are you getting LG updates when you are rooted running a custom rom? did you un-root?
Yeah from reading about it she must have unrooted or at least stock recovery.
Then the update unroots
There looks like a lot of people on xda reporting update has been pulled by LG for unknown reasons.
Can still download off secondary hosts and use kdz updater to flash the phone.
No, I didn't unroot. I just restored the stock 2.3.3 rom through cwm. The LG tool allowed me to update, of course, I lost root and cwm in the process.
i had tried to download the same update yesterday and what happined was fatal to my phone. the upgrade started to go smoothly but 34 minutes into the upgrade it stoped at 5 percent 40 minutes into the software upgrade my phone froze and never recovered. when i turm my phone on it still says S/W upgrading please wait.. so i contacted an lg rep. went though all the do's and dont's we tried everything on the support tool that would help me recover my phone but to no prevale it's still stuck.. we tried and tried for over an hour then the storm comes where he tells me that my phone need to be repaired. i had the phone for close to a year and i am out of a phone..
My software version is 4.0.4. CM9 is making strides.
LG's Open Souce Code Distributionsite is also showing it.
No hardware acceleration in CNET yet though.
No Netflix no go for me.
I did flash the stock v21y build to see if it helps the shutting down restarting problem.
Does have the new Swype which is nice.
