Don't update the MyAccount app!

I just read the permissions that come with the newest update to the TMobile MyAccount app.  Apparently, TMobile wants access to my contacts, my messages, the ability to send text messages, answer my phone, hang up my phone, and advertise in my notification bar among many other things...Why is this?  Why would you ever have to answer my phone or hang it up or send a message(especially when it's not free)?  Also, I have enough going no in my notification bar.  I really don't want your advertising messages up there.  For now, it's just TMobile ads, but who's to say they won't start selling that space?  I would like some input.

T-Mobile always has access to your messages, the number you called and text messages with or WITHOUT those permissions because it is your service provider. As for ads, I recall tmobile has stopped doing so after their first attempt.

I think you suffer from the same ideology I do.  I am constantly frustrated and disappointed that I cannot chose what is running on the device I carry around on my person. Because I pay for the right to use a cell phone the monster I chose to subscribe to gets to have the final say as to what is running on the device.  Unfortunately we do not have carriers who believe that when someone purchases a service from someone that the service is theirs.  I have a phone on my desk when someone calls me the carrier receives the call accounts for that call for billing and forwards it to my device, when I make a call the carrier is alerted and the call details are recorded for account purposes.  I either bought the phone device from an independent store or I made arrangements with the carrier to use one from them.

Today in cellular phone land you get little to choose. In your geographical area you have certain providers that can provide you telephony services, from those you have a choice from whom to surrender to.   After that you get no say but to pay your bill you have no voice in that is running on your phone. Sure lots of people have varied opinions of what is the carriers responsibility and the purchaser of the service.  If all the carrier did was to support the actual call or message details there would be less for them to support, hence you would not have the poor excuse of supporting software on the phone.

Of course there are options of rooting and they are becoming more attractive as the software and devices mature. I hope that someday there will be a carrier that actually is honest and upstanding to stick to the business of providing the services we as consumers chose to subscribe to and not the underhanded sneaky data manipulating ways all carriers perform today.

Yes, because corporations are evil and that's the only explanation for why these phones operate the way they do. It's not that Android is built from Linux and Linux runs on a framework system. It's not that some frameworks are attached so some apps and services and need to run in order for other apps and services to use them. Nope, it's cause T-mobile wants to control your phone. Root and put CM7 on your phone and don't even apply the Google apps. Then nothing but the most basic parts of your phone will work and you won't have to worry about what T-Mobile "makes" you do.

I would encourage you to leave any feedback (be it positive or negative) about My Account apps on this thread:

The people responsible for My Account check in on that thread periodically, but they do not read the Sensation forums for feedback.
