hello recently my blacberry bold 9780 screen has gone white. it hapened as i was using the device so i shut it off and turned it back on only to find it didnt do anything. now i have wiped it using JL_Cmder and no results. i called up T-mobile tech support and they told me it was a software issue and told me to force detect my device. the device updated but still no results. im now leaning towards it being a hardware issue. if you have any sugesstions they would be greatly appreciated
It is a hardware problem, not.software, if it is an all white screen with no error message text, the device works otherwise, and you are able to reload the OS but that does not correct the problem.
The following link is to a forum post by someone who claims to have fixed a 9700 with this issue.
I don't know of any other, though there may be something at crackberry.com.
It may be a hardware issue. We appreciate going through all the steps and trouble shooting. aiharkness is right now reloading the software. I would also follow this document http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2071
Thanks so much for posting

Let us know if that resolves the issue
I am having the very same problem, just recently started yesterday on the 11th of April, 2012. I have used that document above to help & the problem still occurs. My phone JUST went out of warranty in Febuary. I will not be told that I cannot get a new phone when this is obviosly a hardware problem, nor will I pay. This is a problem T-Mobile needs to take care of, I won't stand for paying when it isn't my fault. I reloaded the OS on my phone, even an upgraded version and still the same problem, this would be a bad situation when you need your phone MOST.
I had the same problem since yesterday. It was intermittently getting service and allowing me to use phone features either when I removed and replaced the battery or powered off (no actual idea on what would make it return since it was kind of ad hoc or luck). Then I reloaded OS and it seemed to work for about 2 hours, then started showing lines again on the screen.
Called T-Mo Cust Service and their response is that it is a software issue (don't know how if it won't respond to resetting or updating software) but phone is dead. Like Chrissykes, my phone went out of warranty and somehow insurance also dropped, so I'm forced to get a new phone because I can't be without one. Ordered the Curve to arrive tomorrow. Phone has had nothing since 11pm last night to now -- it makes sounds to show me that I'm getting messages but they won't show up and I can't do anything with it. Even the alarm sounds funny but I can't stop or change it.
I have the same problem. Just went through the steps to resolve the "software problem" and it didn't do anything. I will be calling again in an hour to get a new phone.
i have this same problem with my bold 9700. according to other posts online, it's definetely a hardware problem. when pushing the phone on the lock button at the same time as the right side of the phone (around the p) the screen comes back to normal. and if i keep my phone flat it stays. but as soon as i have talked on the phone or had it in my bag, the screen turns white again. t-mobil told me to buy a new phone.
hey guys so i got a new phone back in april when i originally opened this thread/disscussion. same exact one BB bold 9780. and it worked fine until again the same exact thing happened today. i am very upset at this point i dont even want the replacement because of the chance that the same error can occur again. i do not reccomend getting this phone if you are thinking about.
I have less than a month before my BB Bold 9780 2 yrs is up. And out of the blue the screen turned white after I turned off (red power key, pressed once) the voice activating lady that gets pressed accidentally when I get it out of my purse. I've had a BB with Sprint and it STILL works. What's up with this White Screen issue and TMobile? I've been through all the steps with TM Tech support and nothing has fixed the white screen. Not a happy customer right now after reading these comments.
If you've read down through the thread....
Does everything else seem to be working ok except for the white screen. For example, does the device boot up (then go to bad screen), does it seem email and texts are being received, and does the phone ring when you call the number from another phone? If so the odds are the screen or a connection is broken. If you reinstall the OS and it is still not working, then it is certain.
You can try removing the media card and reinstalling the OS just to be sure. It does sound like broken hardware, but I would do it just because it is easy and sometimes you never know.
...and back up the device before you do anything next.
