    HTC Amaze or One S

      Hey everyone!

I have been at T-mobile for years and was thinking about leaving in order to get an IPhone...looked at the prices and now I'm staying. I can upgrade in a month and I can't decide on a phone. I have had a keyboard for years and I am thinking it's time to evolve to an all touch screen phone!  I don't know what would be the better phone HTC Amaze or HTC One S?

          It's all personal preference.

          Amaze 4G

          • A little bulkier than the One S, but that gives it a little memory and battery advantage...
          • 16 GB internal memory + removable memory card (supports up to 32 GB)
          • Removable battery
          • 4.2" screen
          • Currently has Android 2.3 Gingerbread

          One S (http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-one-s/#specs)

          • Extremely thin
          • 16 GB internal memory (no memory card capability)
          • Battery cannot be removed
          • 4.3" screen
          • Planned to release with Android 4.0 ICS

I use the Amaze a lot and it's very reliable for me. I haven't gotten to use a One S yet.

love my amaze, but with the uncertainty of when ICS will be released coupled with the fact that the amaze is last years device....i would prolly go with the One

            • 3. Re: HTC Amaze or One S

Wait for the One S.  It has the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor which is more powerful and more energy efficient. The One S will also have HTC's Sense 4.0 that is more optimized than previous versions and includes their new camera sensor.  I have the Amaze and am very pleased with it but if I was in your position I would wait for the newer phone.

If you use bluetooth, do NOT buy an Amaze.

                • 5. Re: HTC Amaze or One S

i am actually waiting for the One S. am kinda thrilled for the Ice Cream Sandwhich OS.
plus if you are more fond of music, One S fits a lot! it has Beats Audio technology that will enable you to personalize your music experience. && with regards to the camera, you can like capture a shot and shoot video at the same time. cool huh?

but the decision is still up to you.

I just got the one and I love it. The online storage makes the phone run so much better!!! And for your windows users it connects to windows live and have email settings for HOTMAIL!!!!!

                    • 7. Re: HTC Amaze or One S

I agree, it's personal preference.  I've rooted my Amaze and installed the official leaked Ice Cream Sandwich update on it.  What a great difference it makes!  To be honest, I think the Amaze with ICS is superior for these reasons

                      • 1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 Dual Core Processor
                      • 8 MP, with 1080p video, 2 MP front camera
                      • 4.3" Super LCD qHD touchscreen
                      • 1 GB internal; expandable up to 48 GB total with a 32 GB MicroSD

                      One S

                      • 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor
                      • 8 MP rear-facing, VGA front-facing, 1080p HD at 60 fps recording
                      • 4.3" qHD AMOLED touch screen (540 x 960)
                      • 16 GB inernal memory; not expandable

So, what are the real differences?  The Amaze has a removeable battery, expandable storage, hardware camera and camcorder buttons, and search button.  The One S has none of these features.  Now that there is a viable ICS release, the only thing that I know of that the One S has that the Amaze does not is a thinner body.  I have cloud storage with Box, Dropbox, and Google Drive on my Amaze.  In my estimation, going from the Amaze to the One S would be a downgrade, but again, that's only my opinion.  Since I love my Amaze, I would love the One S too.  HTC makes the best Android phones.  Personally, I just like the few little extra bells and whistles on the Amaze.

On a side note, there are plenty of reports on the xda forums of Amaze users using a 64 GB Micro SD card, and having access to 60 GB actual space on it.  That's a total of 76 GB of internal storage!!!  That's AMAZing!!  76 GB internal AND cloud storage!  Never run out of space again!  Hahaha

Check out the hardware specs of both.  There are very subtle differences  http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/HTC-One-S,HTC-Amaze-4G/phones/6579,5894

Update:  Whoa!  After reading through those specs, I noticed that the One S does not have NFC.... what?

Further research confirms, no NFC on the One S... that's a deal breaker for me, personally.  Even though I currently don't use NFC on my Amaze, I'm glad it's capable because it's going to be everywhere one day in the near future.  Definitely a downgrade.

It took a relatively long time to get S-Off on the Amaze. Now that it's there, I feel a whole lot better about it. It makes it that much more possible for us to take fixing this otherwise fine phone into our own hands.

This link seems to articulate very well our frustrations with HTC in general and how its getting worse going forward. The Amaze 4G might just be the last of the "good old days:

I hear the Snapdragon S4 really does well without chewing up a lot a battery power.  Little good it does us because the put in a smaller battery. The anticipated life of the phone is still only 8-12 hours on a charge.

I really found the Galaxy S2 boring compared to the Amaze. We have both in the family, but now I see how much more open the GS2 is, I am jealous.

One S, easy. Amaze has had a few problems widely reported, and HTC has been slow, very slow, to fix them. I won't even reiterate them -- they're all here in this forum, HTC's support forum, and XDA-Developers forum.

Also, the One S has Sense 4, and the Amaze ICS update appears to be coming with Sense 3.6 (a 3.0 update).   Sense 4 seems much improved from all the hands-on and review articles I've read.
