To answer your question
2) That my Sonic 4g has been unlocked?
When you insert the Non-T-Mobile SIM the device will display "Invalid SIM"
you will need to log into your admin console "mobile.hotspot" (I know you got this part already)
Proceed to Settings>>>Security>>>>Unlock device
The normally grayed out screen will now be active, enter the "Device Unlock code:" into the space provided.
Your device will now be unlocked (or if you made an error the "Remaining times:" will be reduced by 1
Finally. This last request went to the right place, and the code came back in one day, and the device has been unlocked.
I have the ZTE 4G Hotspot, not the Sonic, but when I submitted the request, the IMEI should have made sure that it was sent to the right place.
In case you're wondering, I wanted it unlocked (a) because I don't want any locked devices and (b) because I might want to use this device in Canada. This was a "free" gadget, not suitable for European use, but should work just fine in Canada if I can get a suitably-priced SIM up there. T-Mobile's roaming rate in Canada is $10/MB, which is clearly a directive "don't ever use it."
No...that's not true that if you paid full price you will have it in 24-48 hours...I'm 2 months into this game and you have not helped me at all. Are you going to back up your words and get this thing unlocked. It's ridiculous and whey people go postal...so screwed up in the US...really. You should be ashamed and embarassed...I would be. I"m waiting...
I got my unlocking sorted out maybe a week later while I was already abroad. Follow the instructions here, don't be a ****, and maybe they'll sort everyone else out too.
I don't think the unlocking happens via Tmobile, I think they have to pitch outward to Huawei or some unlock department, and then they issue the codes, which Tmobile then feeds to you. It is not a smooth process, but it unexpectedly worked out for me. I managed to get a SIM card in Berlin, but it was a pain in the *** to get more cards, so I skipped it in Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy, just going to hotels that had free wifi.
I've sinced picked up a Tmobile SIM, and it runs well here in SF, and so far, NYC, Atlanta, New Orleans, Charlotte and even Augusta, GA. Good luck!
I have another one I've been trying to unlock. I've called T-Mobile several times. They put in the unlock request twice and still after 2 more weeks they ay they are still waiting to hear back from the factroy and they can not guarantee how long. I feel like its lost in cyberspace. Does anyone from T-Mobile still monitor this forum?
Tmo_ian - Can you help me out here?
Thank you for responding back to my email, actually it appears that
there has been two unlock request for your hotspot device form #5745023 and
5807594, I initially looked at the most recent unlock request which was 5807594
and in the notes it appears that our SIM Unlock Team tried to unlock the device
and request the code from the manufacture but they were unsuccessful at
obtaining it from the actual Manufacture. Below is the notes they provided.
Code Unavailable From Manufacturer
Thank you for taking the time to
contact T-Mobile. We have received your SIM Unlock Request. Unfortunately, we
are unable to process your request at this time because we were unsuccessful in
obtaining an unlock code for the given IMEI. We have made every attempt to
obtain the unlock code for this device. I do apologize for all of the troubles.
