Take a look at Error 170 when attempting to download and install the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update - T-Mobile myTouch Slide. This will show you exactly what to do in order to get rid of this error.
I did a factory reset. When the phone rebooted, it asked if I wanted to restore settings from the SD Card. I cancelled out of that.
I attempted the upgrade before configuring anything on the phone. It didn't work.
I then attemped t the troubleshooting instructions for ERROR 170. It didn't work.
No matter what I do, I receive ERROR 170.
Is there any other reason the update wouldn't work on my phone?
I'm having the same issue. HTCSync shows my device is connected and then once I've double-clicked the downloaded update (2.2 Froyo) from my PC desktop, I get the Error 170 as HTC Sync flips out and says there's no device connected. So I followed the steps, disconnected device from PC, removed battery, rebooted phone, waited, then connected, HTCSync finds the device only to have it flip out and disconnect once I try to run the 2.2 update.
I even looked online to see if there's an apk file version of the update, because HTCSync does work on its own and will look on my computer for those kinds of files.
Does anyone from T-Mobile know how to fix this?
Still no luck. I even reinstalled the driver and still no success. HTCSync does connect then disconnects and reconnects when trying to run the update exe file. I can get all the way up to the window where I check that "I understand..." and then a new window opens saying my device is disconnected.
I understand this must be a complicated issue because it involves cross platform software, but it would nice to know if someone from HTC has debugged the issue since it seems to be happening a lot, across different PC's with different OS. I'm running Windows Vista - not sure if that makes a difference, but have disabled all security programs.
as ak49hi indicated, you must install the 3.0.5511 exe (NOT 5579), which can be found in the text of the instructions on htc's website, here:
click 'more' under 'android 2.2 system update' - scroll down through the instructions and you'll see the appropriate sync file.
after messing around with this for an hour or so yesterday, i finally located the necessary file, downloaded it, and it worked perfectly. of note, if you've already installed 79, you'll have to uninstall it before you can install the appropriate file, since 79 is a newer version.
the NEXT problem, however, was a 'force close or wait' error when my phone rebooted. i hit wait, it took forever to start up, and when it did, i had no connectivity at all.
if anyone has this problem, it means your SIM card is too old to work with the update. fortunately, i had a newer one lying around (you know, since i've had to replace the mytouch about four hundred times, which i'm sure is the case for most people reading this) and was able to have tmobile activate it immediately, and i was up and running within minutes.
yeah, it sucks to lose everything on your sim, but you can't access it once you upgrade anyway, so either way it's lost!
hope that helps.
