This is an issue that can be common on many android devices. It could possibly be due to the way you have the number saved, and the way the phone receives the number when you receive a text. The phone will typical receive the number in with 10 or 11 digits. Take a look at this document, it will help you work towards resolving your issue.
This question is NOT answered....first - what do you mean by another message app? I have no idea why I would not just use the messaging service on the phone or where you would get another message app. And no it does not show name and phone number, just the phone number and yes they are listed as mobile numbers in my contact list....still FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!
First off, people have been posting some helpful advice, there really is no need to get snippy. We can understand your frustration, I mean I'm having a couple issues with mine as well.
Okay to start with, were they entered as contacts in your phone or were they being synced from facebook or some other online contacts? I have found that when mine were not entered manually into my phone before syncing I couldn't see their names until I entered their contact info manually first then resynced my phone.
Again I can understand your frustration, I have been fighting with my phone properly syncing for 2 months now along with dust under the screen just like the issue they had with the 3G version.
Ok - maybe these answers are clear to those more tech savvy than I, but as a mere human, I don't get a lot of them. These contacts transferred from my old phone to new...and any new contacts I've added still only show up as numbers. Are you saying I have to erase them all and then re-copy by hand into phone? That seems ridiculous, to me - and what does re-syncing mean? I have no idea. What troubles me more is that when I call tech support, they have no idea either.
Maybe not re-copy them all by hand, all of my contacts are from my old phone as well due to them having to replace my 3G Slide, they stopped carrying it and gave me an upgrade to the 4G, I do like this phone but I dun like the issue with my contacts not syncing right.
Syncing contacts meaning if you have any contacts linked to your facebook or any other online account. I would be more then happy to try and help you with your issue. I can tell you, sometimes when you call their tech support you get someone that is not familiar with that particular phone ect. Having worked tech support for another company I would imagine the training is similar in that they train the tech support within only the support boudaries (meaning anyone can be trained for tech support no matter how tech savy they are). I'm still trying to figure some things out with mine as well. Have you tried their tech support more then once? I know when I had the issues on my 3G Slide when I called a second time I got put over to their higher tier tech support and they really are pretty good if they are familiar enough with the phone
I've been browsing through here too and some people have mentioned that getting a new sim card seems to fix things too. I kinda wish I could actually see your phone so I have a better idea of why it's doing that to you.
So it's just your new contacts that only show up as numbers?
It is awesome that Sweet-Tea is assisting you. I would also like to ask a few questions if that is ok, that way we all can help you to get this situation resolved.
First off, you have signed into your Gmail account on the Slide, correct? Since you do, do you know if your contacts are saved to your Gmail account, your SIM, or your phone itself?
View - Change contacts view
To change the view of what contact types appear, follow these steps:
- From any Home screen, touch the Phone icon.
- Touch Contacts (Contactos).
- Press the Menu key.
- Touch View.
- Select from:
- T-Mobile Contacts Backup
- Exchange ActiveSync
- Note: Selections may change depending on what apps and email accounts are on the phone.
- Touch Done.
Now, depending on where you have this information saved, your display might be different.
Let us know first where they are saved then we can move on from there.
