I got it. G means a generation of wireless technology. But why does "G" appear by itself? I have mobile network turned off so my phone shouldn't be connecting to the internet via mobile network. I have wifi turned on. I have background data and auto sync off. I have the auto launch task manager off. I also did not check the boxe for auto update when I downloaded any apps.
Sounds like you answered your own question with regard to the icon (G = 1G network = really slow = base GSM connectivity).
As to why it is trying to access data...the My-Tmobile app tends to do this.
Are you trying to completely disable the cellular network? If so, put the device in Airplane mode, and then only enable WiFi. Won't be able to receive calls unless you have WiFi calling enabled.
One thing to note is that app developers have the option of writing apps that 'require' cellular networks for data (and will bypass wifi).
Hope this helps.
Thank you for you input. I guess you are saying that My T-mobile app is cheating me out of my money! What does the My T-mobile app do? I checked the list of running apps and it is not on there. I haven't checked my account since yesterday when I accidently did so at 12:03 thinking it was still 11:50.
