    Manage memory

    To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

     

    Restart device regularly

    1. Press and hold the Power key.
    2. Tap Power off.
    3. Once the device is off, press and hold the Power key again to restart.

    Note: You should restart your phone at least once per day.


    Reduce memory use

    • Remove widgets (animated widgets and widgets that update information use the most memory)
      1. If necessary, navigate to the Home screen that contains the widget.
      2. Touch and hold the widget you want to remove.
      3. Slide the widget over the Trash can icon, and then release your finger.
    • Replace a Live wallpaper
      1. On any Home screen, touch and hold a vacant area of the screen.
      2. Tap WALLPAPERS.
      3. Choose one of the following options:
        • Use an Xperia wallpaper
          1. Touch the row of previews and slide left to browse more wallpaper options.
          2. Select the wallpaper you want to use.
        • Use a custom wallpaper
          1. Tap Album.
          2. Navigate to and select the picture you want to use.
          3. Touch and hold on the crop box and then slide your finger to move it.
          4. Touch an edge of the crop box, and then slide your finger to adjust the size.
          5. Tap Crop.
    • Remove unused panes
      1. On any Home screen, touch and hold a vacant area of the screen.
      2. Touch the screen and slide left or right to view the pane you want to delete.
      3. Tap the Close icon (X) in the upper-right corner of the preview.
      4. Tap Delete to confirm.


    Manage applications

    • Research and monitor new applications that you install
      • Read Play Store application reviews before installing. Not all applications run smoothly on phones. Read customer reviews before downloading an application to see if it has a history of not working properly.
      • If your device starts having problems after installing an application, consider uninstalling the application.
    • Keep applications updated
      1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
      2. Scroll to and tap Play Store.
      3. Tap the Menu icon in the upper-right corner.
      4. Tap My apps.
        Note: To keep your apps automatically updated, first tap the Menu icon, tap Settings, and then select the Auto-update apps check box.
      5. Perform one of the following actions:
        • Tap Update [xx] to update all applications with updates available.
        • Select an individual application, and then tap Update to update a single application.
    • Uninstall third-party applications
    • Clear application cache and data
    • Clear recent applications
      1. From any screen, tap the Task manager key.
      2. To close a recent application, touch the preview and slide it to the right.
    • Never install a third-party Task Manager or Battery Manager. These applications interfere with how Android works.

     

     

    Task manager

    A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any screen, tap the Task manager key.
    2. To open a recently used application, tap the thumbnail.
    3. To close a recently used application, touch the thumbnail and slide it to the right.

     

     

    View free memory

    To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Apps.
    4. Touch the screen and slide left to view the Running screen.
    5. View the 'free' value in the lower-right corner.

    Internal storage (ROM)

    Manage storage

    To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

     

    Clear storage regularly

    Check the available internal device storage (see 'View free storage space' below).
    It must be over 150 MB for your device. The Android system cannot work properly if the internal device storage is below 150 MB. If under 150 MB, use the following tips to clear more storage:

      • Delete unnecessary text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS)
      • Transfer pictures and media to a computer to remove them from the phone memory
      • Clear the browser cache, cookies, or history
      • Clear the Facebook app cache
      • Delete the call logs

    Note: Clear storage at least once per week.


    Adjust memory storage settings

    Change the Gmail sync setting to every three days to prevent your ROM storage from quickly filling up:

      1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
      2. Scroll to and tap Gmail.
      3. Tap the Menu icon in the lower-right corner.
      4. Tap Settings.
      5. Select your email address.
      6. Under 'DATA USAGE,' tap Days of mail to sync.
      7. Enter 3.
      8. Tap OK.

    Manage applications

    Monitor new applications that you install.

    • If your device starts having problems after installing an application, consider uninstalling the application.
    • Consider uninstalling apps using large amounts of ROM.
      1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
      2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
      3. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Apps.
      4. If necessary, touch the screen and slide left or right to the All or Downloaded screens.
      5. To sort apps from largest users of ROM to least, tap the Menu icon and then tap Sort by size. The apps using the most ROM are now at the top of the list.
      6. Select the application you want to uninstall.
        Note: Uninstalling an app will delete the app.
      7. Tap Uninstall, and then tap OK.

    View free storage space

    To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Storage.
    4. Under 'INTERNAL STORAGE,' view the Available value. The available space is also represented by the grey region of the bar graph.

    SD card

    Format SD card

    Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

     

    To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Storage.
    4. Under 'SD card,' tap Erase SD card.
    5. Tap Erase SD card again to confirm. Follow any additional prompts.

     

     

    Insert/remove SD card

    To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

     

    Insert

    1. To remove the memory card slot cover, insert a fingernail into the gap between the bottom edge of the cover and the phone, then pull out the cover.

    2. Insert the memory card into the memory card slot with the gold-colored contacts facing down.

    3. Using a fingernail, push the memory card further into the slot until you hear a locking sound.
    4. Push the memory card slot cover back into position so that it is fully latched.

     

    Remove

    1. Turn off the phone, or unmount the memory card from Settings > Storage > Unmount SD card.
    2. Remove the cover of the memory card slot, then press against the edge of the memory card and release it.
    3. Draw the card outward to remove it fully.

     

     

    Open or delete files using a computer

    To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

     

    1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
    2. On the computer when the Windows Explorer window appears, double-click Browse files.
    3. Navigate to and open the folder inside of your SD card that contains the files you want to delete.
    4. Right click the file you want to delete, and then select Delete.
    5. When finish, safely disconnect your phone from the computer.

     

     

    Open or delete files using the device

    To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap File Commander.
    3. If prompted, tap Register later to skip this step.
      Note: If desired, tap Register now instead and follow the on-screen prompts.
    4. Select the folder for your memory card.
    5. Choose from one of the following options:
      • Open files
        • Navigate to and select a file to open it.
      • Delete files
        1. Navigate to the file you want to delete.
        2. Touch and hold the file name.
        3. Tap Delete.
        4. Tap OK to confirm.

     

     

    Set default memory storage

    By default, the device stores data in the internal storage. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Camera icon.
    2. Tap the Settings icon.
    3. Scroll down to and tap Data storage.
    4. Select one of the following options:
      • Internal storage
      • SD card

     

     

    Transfer files between computer & SD card

    To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:


    1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
    2. On the computer when the Windows Explorer window appears, double-click Browse files.
    3. Navigate to and open the desired folder inside your SD card.
    4. Copy files from your computer to the open SD card folder on your device.
    5. When you are done copying, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray.
    6. Click Safely Remove Mass Storage Device.
    7. Click OK.
    8. Disconnect the device from the computer.

     

     

    Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

    To transfer files and pictures between the internal storage and SD card, follow these steps:


    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap File Commander.
    3. Navigate to the files you want to transfer.
    4. Select the check boxes for the folders or files that you want to transfer.
    5. Tap Copy. The screen will display '[X] item(s) copied.'
    6. Navigate to the location where you want to move the files to.
    7. Tap Edit.
    8. Tap Paste.

     

     

    View free SD card space

    To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:


    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Storage.
    4. Under 'SD CARD,' view the Available value.
