Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Tap Speak Selection.
  5. Tap the slider to enable Speak Selection.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads highlighted text out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Tap Speak Selection.
  5. Edit the following settings:
    • Voices
    • Speaking Rate
    • Highlight Words

Voice commands

Enable Siri for voice commands

To enable Siri for voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the main Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Siri.
  4. Tap the slider to enable Siri.

 

 

Open an app

To open apps using Siri, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press and hold the Home key.
  2. Speak the command: Open [App Name].

 

 

Voice dial a contact

To use Siri to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press and hold the Home key.
  2. Speak one of the following phrases:
    • Call Jim
    • Call 805 637 7243
    • Call my sister
    • Note: If you have not set a contacts as specific personal relations, Siri will prompt you to select the desired contact. This will be stored, and next time you say, "Call my sister" the device will call the contact you designated.

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using Siri, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press and hold the Home key.
  2. Speak a command, such as:
    • Text Joe saying Hello.
    • Send a message to Bob on his mobile telling him I'm on my way.
    • Tell my wife I love her.
